Doreen, I can honestly say, every time I read one of your posts, you do remind me of Ann Landers of the LC World. Am truly amazed at the wealth of knowledge you possess and although monetarily you may gain little; you have gained much gratitude for all the time spent doing detailed research in all facets of LC and taking the time to answer the many questions posed.......

Wa'il, I find it interesting that your favourite food is lamb and your favourite movie is Silence of the Lambs?

One of my favourite quotes is form Dorothy Parker, Doreen. Her definition of eternity: two people and a ham!

Here I go...

-Board name and real world name – the same, Karen
-Age and SEX – 44, female
-LC Start date – July 1999
-Married, single, other – single
-City, County /Hemisphere – Vancouver, Canada
-Occupation – Executive chef, cookbook author, cooking teacher, mentor to young women in the culinary arts
-Kids, pets, pests – 2 doggies
-Current Low Carb status – back to losing again, I think?

AND FOR FUN........

-Favourite low carb food – anything I happen to be eating. That’s one of the things I like about LC.
-Favourite non-low carb food – good ice cream. Mmm, Hagen Daz
-Food you can't live without on Low carb – umm, meat?
-Favorite type of exercise – What? I walk the dogs and my house has 4 flights of stairs. The place I work in has 3 flights. I plan to start weight training by 2004.
-If you could be paid for the thing you most like to do what would it be? – I’m doing it!
-Person you'd most like to meet currently living – Doreen T
-What are you currently reading – Best American Erotica 2001. 1999 was a much better vintage! LOL
-What's your favourite movie – I have a long list. Apocalypse Now, Imitation of Life, Mildred Pierce, Soylent Green, Silence of the Lambs, Seven, The Usual Suspects, Boogie Nights, Natural Born Killers, Wall Street…it goes on
-Just anything else you'd like to share – Your actions define who you are, not your thoughts or intentions.

Karen

Hi Guys

Well my abhorrence of anything groupish nearly put me off but I'll make the effort. I figure you have a right to know who's dishing out all this abuse. Rachel - keep your head below the parapet....

* Board name and real world name
Nicola Russell

* Age and SEX F (last time I looked)/ A mere 39 years
* LC Start date; I cant remember, maybe 27 Mar 2001
* Married, single, other; Married for ever (seems like it) to a
very kind, laid back and thin hibernian. You know the kind of
bloke that's so nice everyone wonders why on earth he married
you... I give him hell (got to treat em mean to keep em keen!)
* City, County /Hemisphere Down under, Melbourne, Australia -
formerly of the UK and born a Kiwi (Citizen of the world but will
probably hang out here for a while)
* Occupation: I try to do as little as possible, I try to be a Mum but I dont think I'm terribly good at it and when I cant avoid it I'm an HR Consultant, usually strategic stuff and change management
* Kids, pets, pests; Gabriel, the Gabesaurus - the world's coolest kid (with a sleep problem) but I swear, if he doesnt turn out to be just like Sean Connery, I'll eat my hat. 3 mangey turks - cats that is. Not really mangey - just damned unhealthy. Miss Lily is aged with poorly controlled diabetes and constantly running eyes but is an old sweetie, Roy - the young buck who just happens to have moderately severe epilepsy, torn ligaments in the back leg and osteoarthritis. Mungo - a supremely healthy old bloke who can run at about 70kms an hour and jump 2.5m straight up but I suspect is marginally braindamaged. You are unlikely to meet a larger cat or one that is so dim.
* Current Low Carb status (ie losing, maintenance, would kill for a visit from the whoosh fairy); Good question. Have traded in the scales and am living on faith.

AND FOR FUN........

* Favourite low carb food; lc gravadlux, crayfish and moreton bay bugs with all sorts of yummy lc sauces, fillet with bearnaise will also never go amiss. Fruit fools rule.
* Favourite non-low carb food; Haagen Daz coffee or dulce de leche icecream chased down by swiss chocolates
* Food you can't live without on Low carb; Good coffee & fruit fools
* Favorite type of exercise; my electric weight toning machine!! Swimming, walking, body surfing and free weights
* If you could be paid for the thing you most like to do what would it be?; Changing the world and failing that - food tasting!
* Person you'd most like to meet currently living; this week's inspiration Tina Kaye, Nicole Kidman of course, I just have to know what the deal is with this divorce and I'd like to meet Sean Bean but not really just to meet him if you know what I mean ...
* What are you currently reading; Nothing at all exciting I mean "Toddler Taming " and "Baby & Child" (i'm getting desperate). All set to read Nelson's "Long walk to freedom" and Bill Brysons "A walk in the woods". Told you I was into walking...
* What's your favourite movie; and .... Very difficult, I love movies almost as much as I love books and food ....2 that really made me roll with laughter "The Full Monty" and "Weekend at Bernies".
* Just anything else you'd like to share.
I got a job this week and it wasnt even a fat persons job!! This diet must be working because noone even seemed to notice that I'm fat so I already owe a lot to this WOE.

Default The new job

Two months ago, there was nothing much around and nobody wanted me and now the market is even worse and I had a choice of two.

The difference? 29lbs less, greater energy, more confidence. I had a choice of a very well paid job at one of the 2 computer co's (which i turned down - who wants to play shepherd to 800 nerds??) and a less well paid but seriously fun job with the City of Melbourne (the local government agency which covers the heart of Melbourne, the CBD). Its a wierd sort of thing and I'm still not sure if I've got it straight but they want me to take a loose HR strategy and turn it into plans and interventions which will ensure they meet their newly articulated people objectives and competencies. I sort of dream up ideas and get them approved by the executive then go and find the HR people (they're in a different division for some strange reason) and get them to roll out the projects while I project manage them.

Leastways thats what I think I'll be doing. Definitely my kind of job, do a bit of looking under stones, pull a few rabbits out of a hat, mooch around talking to other people and then get other people to do the real work! What sealed it for me was that the Director I'll be working for is really nice - a dinkum Aussie, straight talking, outgoing, realistic but focussed and they were only too happy to get me.

A far cry from my all time low, earlier this year when I didnt get a job that I went for (which I could do standing on my head) because I was very nice but maybe not dynamic enough!!! This feedback combined with the look of horror on her size 8, face when she saw me. Well it really hurt and made me scurry off home and give up. As you can imagine few people call me nice!! and not dynamic enough is definitely a first. I was upset and angry and it took me until I started this WOE to decide that that was it and I was going to get back to looking good and I was going to walk all over those people on my way back up.

After two weeks on this WOE, I was just out there and maybe because I havent been acting like a 'fat person', things have just got more and more positive until now I'm back in the game!! Going to keep this WOE up though, I've still got a few bugs to squash!!

Nicola
