Add me to the tally of those not trying to conceive. I have a beautiful child, not interested in any more thank you very much.

I was all excited last month to have a period for the first time in a year. So far nothing this month. <sigh> Maybe it'll take longer for the met to make it happen? It's been almost a month since I started taking it.

I"m 24 and don't have anything hindering my reprod. parts, but I'm TOO VAIN to have children!!

...and too impatient!
...and too mentally unstable!
...and too selfish!

So if anything, being vain is the least of my problems lol!

Hi, I'm 33 & i have 3 kids all who were born C-section, I have had sypmtoms all my life of PCOS & i just found out i had it about 2 wks ago, I've been doing alot of resarch on the topic, My grandmother had it, my mother had it & my younger sister had it, I have had irragular or no perrods all my life or VERY heavy & clotty ones, I had my tubes tired almost 9 yrs ago.I never used the pill regual & didnt get pregnant before and now i know why. I have always had VERY bad crampming & bloating through-out each month & weight gain , My tummy is very round & i just thought it was from the lack of muscel tone due to my c-sections WRONG! I have had 2 miscarages & 2 dandc's .Now the Dr. wants to go in & pop my cyst & put me on the pill I DO NOT want to do this, My sister tryed it & they just came back & my sis in law also, They both just had Hyst. If i'm going to have to stay on a pill i'd rather it be hormones or something, Its all just a big pain, But i worry about that also because my mom had hers cycst removed & then ended up have the big Hyst, & took homones & got breast cancer, but caught it ealry & is fine now after the radiation & sugery, & takes a soy based hormone pill & is doing very well with it, as does my younger sister & sis -in-law, I do not want to have to go back & have another surgery if I can just have it all taken care of and get the big Hyst. I do not want to go threw the heavy bleeding & the PAIN & bloating anymore & or the sexual discomfort any longer. I have to stay in bed with a heating pad for the first few days. I have tryed low carb diet & they only help for a lil while & then i'm right back up. I hurt all the time & cant stand to have alot of pressure or stain on my tummy. The Dr. did an ultra sound Monday 6/13/05 & he found alot of cycst & some large i go back tomarrow 6/16/05 to discuss what they are going to do in my sugery 6/21/05. My thinking is I dont want to just proglong the enevtable & so why not just take it all while your in there!

Natural Progesterone Cream did wonders for clearing up my cysts. You might want to look into it if you're interested in a natural alternative. I recommend John Lee's book "What your doctor may not tell you about premenopause" to learn more. I think maintaining a low-carb diet has been a critical factor in keeping my cysts away also!

Hello!!!

So glad to meet people who are also not interested in having children! So many pcos sites are all about having children and I am treated like an outsider when I say I do not want a child.

I am a happy Mommy to three fur babies. I love them, cuddle them, play with them and can lock them in the kitchen if I need too!

Hola!!

I'm another PCOS'er who does not want kids. Not only do I not want, I can't have. Last year, I had hysterectomy, and they took the ovaries too...so it is NOT an option and I am WAY ok with that. I'd love to be a Gramma one day (in about 25 yrs), so I can find a chap with kids and marry him. hehe

I've been through many docs and even had one tell me I was UNWORTHY to treat for PCOS cuz I am not TTC, so when I am - give him a call. UGH

I'm trying to get in to see Dr. Corenblum here in Calgary, but my Edmonton doc is being an assclown and dropping the ball again. (just moved to Cal, but other docs are still in Edm).

Soooo...I hope to get in to see him and I HOPE he will deem me worthy.

I have PCOS. I am always a threat for Cushings and was supposed to be tested regularly. I am almost out of meds...someone needs to see me. LOL

Since when are we not important just because some choose NOT to have kids?? It's almost like the 'single' thing, but don't get me started on that. ROFL

Ciao!

I just wanted to bump this thread, since most of the other ones are about pregnancy.

I am 34 and although I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS I'm pretty sure I have it.

I raised the issue with my GP recently because the cramps around ovulation and at the start of my period have been getting worse and worse the last couple of years (I never used to have ANY until around age 28-30) and they are now sometimes so bad that I’m basically in bed for about the first 3 days of my period. I thought this might be a symptom of PCOS (I have several other symptoms that match PCOS), and he (my GP) basically just said: "Since you're not trying to get pregnant there's nothing we would do about it anyway, so diagnosing you is pointless." (I'm paraphrasing of course, but that was what he meant :mad.

I did however just today make an appointment with a FEMALE DR. (maybe she'll be more understanding!) that I saw recommended on a PCOS forum. She is not an OB/GYN, but was recommended for those who are not trying to get pregnant. She's a glandular- and hormonal specialist (or something along those lines). I'm going to sit down and say "OK, I think I have this and I want tests done, and I want to KNOW!!! I'm tired of going to my GP who doesn't really listen to me and never initiates anything. If I think there's something wrong with me I have to basically research it and go to him and tell him what to do! He never shows any initiative to get to the bottom of things. It really pi**es me off!

I have been reading about Glucophage and would like to try it. If any of you reading this have taken it (also known as Metformin, I think), I would be grateful to hear if it has helped your weight loss.

I’ve been stuck for a year now and it’s driving me crazy, esp. since I’ve been working out regularly for over 7 months now and been cleaning up my diet and stuck to it for about 6 weeks now and nothing has happened. I’ve tried Atkins several times and the longest I stuck it out was 5 weeks, I think. But I can live with CAD/CALP and feel really good, and I could imagine doing that forever (pretty much). I have no cravings on it (well, none to speak of and very seldom) and that is such a relief and freedom.

Sorry for my rambling, hope some of you have the patience to read it (and answer).

I’m just so frustrated because it’s like I’ve hit a wall and I can’t get below this weight.

At least now I have the DR’s appointment to hold on to and hope something will come of it.

Default Not wanting to have children

Greetings,

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2000. I was 41 at the time. I was diagnosed because my daughter was! I was called in for a study and we realized that all the women in my family have PCOS. It was through this experience that I finally got all the answers to my long history of problems. I do not wish to have any more children as my youngest is seventeen. I do know the horrors of trying to get pregnant. I was only able to have one child. I adopted after that. I now have many health issues that are related to PCOS as I was not diagnosed until later in my life. I am low carbing now and trying to get my body functioning again. I also ran into finding anyone who was not trying to have a child. Only recently has information come out about the long term effects of having PCOS.

I want kids, but not right now. I have been ttc for almost 3 years now. Have had absolutly no success! So I have decided to put it on hold for this year, sort our my weight, once and for all, and then try again.

For the OP, the only way I know of to minimize the bleeding is to go on the pill.

Taking metformin/avandia with spiranolactone might help in lieu of the pill, but the pill is really your best option.

It's the hormonal imbalance that PCOS causes that allows you to bleed like that--it's possible that you're not even having actual periods, but breakthrough hormonal bleeding. The pill will correct that for you.

And Carolyn:

From your stats you're not so overweight that it would inhibit conception.

Also, I lost weight and it did nothing, so it's not a guarantee that being thin will get you PG.

Please touch base with a Reproductive Endocrinologist and get evaluated. Three years of ttc is too long.
