Default Coconut oil question

I have been doing the coconut oil in my coffee in the mornings. ( 2 cups ~ 1 TBS each). I have tons of energy ~ but then I am zapped come afternoon. I think I burn tons of energy in the mornings, but I use it all up too early! LOL Should I purposely have a 3rd TBS in the mid afternoon ( like 2 pm or so)? Or is this NOT normal?

When I used to take CO, like you I found that it gives me very high energy to start with, then suddenly few hours later I feel so weak (sounds familiar , huh??), I made some investigations and seems a lot of people reported that CO induces hypoglycemia for them, in fact last time I went VLC, I did suffer a lot from hypoglycemia attacks, and thought it’s the near zero carb woe (I ate only animal products, but I also kept the CO and occasionally EVOO) however now I realize it was the CO that caused me the hypoglycemic reaction, I believe not everyone can have this reaction to CO, but it did happen to me, and once I quit CO I have had no hypoglycemic attacks at all.

I am definitely sleepier at night but I think it is because the new energy that I have gets used up more efficiently. I am hypoglycemic and the tiredness that I feel is much diferent from hypoglycemia. I am not weak at all. I think that adding the third tablespoon later in the day may be just the ticket. As a matter of fact, I am going to have a cuppa joe with some CO right now.

Goot jump in here and ask a question... I am thinking of adding this to my wol and have been leaning towards buy the coconut oil in gel caps (from GNC).... does any one take them in this form and if so do you have energy rush that Sheila was talking about?

cwbydeb very expensive way to do it! The one pound tub or larger gives you so much more. Most use it in a cup of coffee or tea (great for smooth lips), or in CO bark (kind of a candy). I buy the 8 pound bucket from Netrition.com when its on sale, to cook in I used the Louana brand from Walmart (baking section), no taste or smell.

I have tried CO in the past and found that it actually made me gain weight and feel really sluggish and manic almost. I think everyone reacts differently.

WEll, I tried it and it did seem to do well today. I will try again tomorrow and see how two days in a row goes. I guess I should have mentioned that I do start my day as it is before 5 am, and was already ready for bed by 9 at the latest. Well.... one hour later then my latest and I am still here! lOl

I didn't "gain" per say, but... my weight held a bit. Yesterday I started releasing fluids again, and it's all good. I never felt weak or sick feeling, just like my energy had gone south.

It takes time to see what CO will do for you. IMHO, you can't try it for a short period of time to get what is going on inside. It takes time to see what coconut oil will do for you. If you began using it yesterday then your body has not yet adjusted to it. Anytime I amke a change with my lifestyle, I give it at least 6 weeks to manifest what it can do for me. I don't care if it makes me gain or lose...I give it the needed time.

deb, in order to get the benefits of the oil in capsules you need to take so much that you will be spending a lot of money!! In other words you need a lot of capsules to get up to the 3.5 TBL per day it is recommended. But if you want to try let us know how it goes.

Sheila,

It really is best to spread your coconut oil throughout the day. That way you get the thermogenic effects with all your meals and not in one shot. I know there are some who cannot do this but it's best to spread it out. I take my 4 TBL throughout the day--usually 2 at breakfast and 1 at lunch and 1 at dinner. It doesn't keep me up at night. In fact I forget to take it one day at lunch and dinner and ended up taking 2 TBL at 8:30 PM. Slept fine that night.

I have actually started using the coconut bark as a pick me up! One T in the am before work, and another in the evening when I get home. With a 2 yr old and a teething infant, Im tired!

I just wish It wasnt so expensive. Well, there is a whole foods just up the street from where I work, before I had to get it from somewhere super exotic. Maybe they will have more selection and better prices. Because Im almost out! And Im pretty much sold on the health benefits, if not the weight loss thing yet...but then Im only 3 weeks in. But man, it sure is nice to have a dark chocolate "candy" that melts on your tongue the same way a godiva truffle used to. I am SO going to experiment with this.

Whats more, I dont have a mouth full of grease after its gone, as one would expect. Im reminded of that posh nosh episode, watching Simon do tasting of olive oils. YUCK!

Im just doing this: Melt a big scoop of coconut oil and measure out 4 T. Melt one square of baking chocolate in measuring cup, and mix in melted oil. mix in packet of splenda, and pour into 4 flat molds (Im using baby food cups). Of all the extra cooking prep Im doing for LC, this is probably the easiest.

whole foods can be kind of pricey. I got some coconut oil at GNC. Not that they are cheap but of you have a gnc gold card (small yearly fee) and you shop the first 7 days of the month -everything is 20% off.

I like the coconut oil and like to play with making candy like things. Since my exercise filled inducation was pretty unimpressive, I think I will try a real fatty week and see what happens. Coconut oil may help me. I loaned my DANDR out and never got it back-trying to get it from library. Anyway I absorbed the info pretty well, but do not remember anything about coconut oil...is this a new atkins thing ?
