Thumbs up I'm new here but have found some nice snack treats

Hi everyone - this forum seems like a wonderful place for support and information and I look forward to being a part of it.

First of all, I was shopping in my local Safeway at Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre here in Melbourne's East and I found what I think are some great little low carb treats to satisy the slightly sweet tooth in some people.

I'm not sure if anyone else has already posted about these, but I'll put in my two bobs worth anyway.

Actually I found a couple of different products (one of which I didn't buy today but looked great anyway - will tell you about that later) - they were in the section of the supermarket that normally has little gourmet accompaniments, like those little toast thingys for pate and dry almond breads etc. - usually some imported stuff too.

Anyway, what I bought today was some Kez's Kitchen Fruit Bread - it's actually just like the dry almond bread stuff - it's Australian Made and owned and it's yummy - not really sweet oranythign but just that little hint of indulgence. There's actually quite a number of products in their brand range, some similar dry bread type products like this one (Vanilla, Sticky Date, Almond, etc.) and they have some slightly more indulgent treats such as Almond Honey cakes and Florentines - didn't buy those but may in the future, as I'm just starting out on Atkins.

Kez's Kitchen Fruit Bread
Ingredients: Flour, Sugar, Egg White, Apricot, Almond, Walnut

Nutritional Information:
Per 5g
Energy: 93kj
Protein: 0.7g
Fat: Total - 0.55g
Fat: Saturated - 0.16g
Carb: Total - 3.58g
Sugars - 1.75g
Sodium: 3.15mg
Potassium: 18.5mg

I think this points to being quite alright on the Atkins diet - any feedback, criticism, advice - has anyone else bought or had these products.

The other thing I found inn the same section was some imported Italian biscuits - varying flavours etc. - which seemed pretty damned good too - will get back to you all next week with the details of those when I buy them!!!

Look forward to seeing some responses from some of you.

Cheers.
Philby.

Hi Philby,
First of all, welcome to the forum - it's always good to see another Aussie.

I can't in all conscience encourage you to keep eating that fruit bread.
Just because they're low in carbs does not mean they are "low carb." Philby, it's not the amount of carbs that is important, but the type of carbs. The first two ingredients are flour and sugar!
Sugar and flour are forbidden on this WOE (way of eating). The problem for most of us is that eating only a small amount of such things as sugar and white flour can set up a craving for much more. That's certainly how it is for me.
Biscuits of these kinds are best avoided.
Sorry to rain on your parade.

Hello again there, matey,
I know I seem to be rousing on you and I'm really sorry about that, I'd just hate for you to fall by the wayside so early.
How well have you read the Atkins book?
I would strongly recommend reading it cover to cover - you'll see what I'm blathering about, then. I keep the Atkins and the Eades books handy and refer to them often.
Meanwhile, how about starting a journal here? They're kept in alphabetical order (first letter of your user name) so you can either go to the front page or to "forum jump" at the bottom of this or any page to find the "M to Q" section.
All the best.

Rosebud

Well, there goes that idea shot down in flames - I was so excited about finding something I thought was good that I forgot some golden rules - I apologise to everyone for being such a doofus.

Hi

Saw your post inthe Davinci sugar free syrup thread. You certainly have been busy searching out lowcarb products. Best of luck and let us know if you find any more that are suitable.

I recently found Pork Krackles (absolutey NO CARBS! - but does contain some MSG - in case you're sensitve to additives)- and they have satisfied me without raising blood sugar levels - available all over the place I'm now assured - Coles, Woolies, BILO, Franklins.

I put in a request to see how others use them other than eating them llike 'chips' or using htem in dips.
Stay tuned to "Uses for Pork Krackles"

Goodluck with your search - let us know what else you find.

Wendye

Hey Wendye

About those Pork Krackles. What section of Coles did you find them in? I have been looking all over the place for them!

Another board I regularly read called Everything Atkins http://www7.addr.com/~atkinsdi/ has a recipe board which has many recipes which use pork krackles. If I remember correctly, they had a fried chicken recipe where you crush the Pork Krackles, dip the chicken in egg, then the pork crackles, back in the egg, back in the pork crackles and the straight into the deep frier!

I would really love to try this recipe! Please tell me where you found them!

Elle.

Default Searchin' Searchin' Searchin'

I went today and there was 1 packet !!!! 1 packet at Hornsby - anyway they are sometimes with the nuts - sometimes with the chips and sometimes with the twisties/pretzels section.

If you phone the store to check if they're instock they will tell you which isle. - Let your fingers do the walking!!

Thanx for the recipe site - I'm off to have a look, now.

Before I read this I left a message in your journal - overload!!

The chicken sounds good.

I went to coles (hornsby) and found these pork crackles! They're a bit bland but they've got a real kinda carb texture to them so that's cool! Bought every last pack...

The only thing is my mum likes to pick at food and while I had my back turned she got into them...only problem was that she's a vegetarian!!!

Hi, does anybody know if/where you can pick up the Atkins bread mix in Australia. I am fairly new on Atkins. I have found some products at GNC, but they are limited. Also did anyone happen to watch that Current Afairs program re a Dr. Robert Harris's low carb diet from Queensland, or took part in the chat show following it. Just interested in the difference.

Cheers.
