Default Will L-glutamine help repair injured muscles?

Just at the end of my workout this morning, when I was doing some lunges (while holding a pair of 15 lb dumbells), I heard this "pop" or "crack" sound at the same time as I felt a sharp pain in my thigh.

I went on the web to check out what could have happened, and it looks as if I have a thigh sprain. I'm not sure whether it's a level 1 or 2 sprain, but I'm pretty sure it's not a level 3 (which would require surgery to fix). In any event, the recommended treatment is the same ... Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. So I'm doing that. If I wake up with a bruise tomorrow, that will be indicative of a level 2 injury and I'll make an appointment at the sports medicine clinic.

I'm wondering how effective L-glutamine is at muscle repair, since the worst case scenario would be that I can't run for a month or more until this injury repairs. I've been taking 1 tsp of L-glutamine 3 times a day (before morning workout, after workout, at bedtime) for several weeks now.

Has anyone been through a similar situation? did the L-glutamine help?

slimmin, Let me just say first that I'd get that checked out just to be on the safe side.

Glutamine will help. It will help with swelling and inflamation and it will help your body repair what it can repair on it's own, but it's no miracle supplement.

Something else to keep in mind - if you're given any anti inflamatories (NSAIDs) or painkillers, glutamine will help with the side effects of those as well. Some info on Glutamine

Hope you're feeling better soon.
