Even at my slimest, I wore a size 12/14, and I'm only 5'2". Between my large bone structure and my large breasts, I'm simply going to weigh more than somebody my height with a different build. The last time I took a look at a BMI chart, I realized that my goal weight leaves me in the "slightly overweight" catagory of BMI. I'd have to be underweight to even approach the "healthy" BMI range.

I recently explained this whole thing to my 11yo who found an online BMI calculator for children and was concerned that she was "fat." No honey, you're not fat. You're built like me and your grandmother. You've got the hips and boobs of the average 11yo but the height of an average 9yo and this throws off the BMI calculations.

BMI is nothing more than a VERY rough estimate of typical body size- it helps you compare the weight of a 5'7" tall woman with the weight of a 4'11" tall woman in a more meaningful way, but it doesn't take into account muscle or bone structure or any other individual features.
