Thumbs down Cholesterol LCD number way off charts

i have been on the low carb diet for 4 months now and loving it... BUT .... I went to have a cholesterol check yesterday and was shattered to hear that my LDL numbers were off the chart !! It was (in South Africa reading) LDL 6.74!!, my total Cholesterol was 9.22 , HDL 4.4 , trig 0.82. Most disconcerting as I am not sure whether it is this diet which I love and feel so good on? I started having a problem last year but got it down to normal (Ttl chol: 5.0) 4 months ago before LC diet. Now I am not sure whether it is diet: eg dairy (I have yoghurt and cream, coffee with cream and coconut oil as well as the chicken skin, etc. Any suggestions out there?

There is an entire sub-forum on Cholesterol under General Health.
http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=48
Read the sticky at top why LDL numbers may go up on LC.
Suggest you purchase Cholesterol Clarity for more detail.

Also, keep in mind that the entire Lipid Hypothesis is currently being re-evaluated because there's a lot of bad science, politics, and poor practice based on it.

It turns out cholesterol numbers are very poorly understood even now. Triglycerides and other inflammatory markers are far more important. How are those?

I would hesitate to discontinue a way of eating that has proven to make you look and feel better over some arbitrary set of numbers that have never proven to mean anything anyway. (Particularly for women) Sometimes you have to step back and let logic prevail.

I've attached a list of cardiovascular markers more important than LDL cholesterol. The measurements are in Imperial units, though; you'll have to do the conversion to the metric system.
