Default High fat, low carb, after open heart surgery

A new friend of mine wants to join me on a low carb w.o.e. He needs to lose about 60lbs I'd say. He had open heart surgery 10 years ago and takes a beta blocker. My concern is that my w.o.e. is high fat as well as low carb and I want to be sure I am giving him appropriate information for his situation. The new thinking about saturated fat and it's health benefits makes it great for me, but has anyone had experience of eating this way after suffering heart disease and undergoing open heart surgery? Any info would be appreciated.

Honestly it's probably best he consult his doctor or nutritionalist.

This sounds like a good question for the Track Your Plaque crowd. It costs to join but they have some expertise there. (Dr. Davis, Wheat Belly, founded that).

Anyway, I know he has people who have been stented, had heart attacks and stuff follow his nutritional and supplement recommendations (low carb, primal diet).

Thanks for replying, bmore. That was my first thought too, but how many doctors are even aware of the benefits of fat, including saturated? Most still follow the old conventional wisdom that fat is bad, which may not be the best advice for him. If he goes low carb and low fat, I don't think that is sustainable over the long term. Apart from the lack of satiety on such a plan, what he'd mostly be eating is protein which the body can transform into sugar, burning that for energy instead of fat.

Perhaps South Beach is a good middle ground?

My 72-years old BF had a quadruple bypass in 1999 and has had a stent placed since then (from what I understand, that is frequently necessary anyway) and has been LC since. His coronary condition is great. He is on a little Crestor. Anyway, that's what has worked for him. I feed him lots of red meat, eggs, etc. and he takes coconut oil.

Ilikemice: That's just exactly what I was hoping to hear. It seems logical that if low carb/high fat works to prevent heart disease, then it should also work after a heart event has already happened to prevent another.

Hello who fan I understand this is an old post but I was curious what your friend decided on diet wise and also how is he./she doing? I'm a 40 year old male who has two stents I had success with atkins in the past but have been struggling as of late. I'm back on the wagon for about 2 weeks and have had some chest pain. Thanks in advance.
