Default Ketosis testing sticks

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me where I can find those sticks that test for ketosis? Are they available at chemists and is there a particular brand that is better?

Cheers.

hi melbgal,

you can buy them from chemists, i don't use them so don't know what brands are best, but you need to keep them in a dry place, as dampness can make them ineffective.

They are called Ketostix (sp?) about $20 and keep in dry place - not in the bathroom as the steam will creep into the bottle and send them off.

They test your pee to see if you are burning fat. Very excited when you see that they are turning purple. Read up on Ketosis under the Aitkins Centre

There's also a great article here by our Doreen T called Ketosis and Ketone Test Strips. It's in "Low Carb Tips" on the orange bar at the top of the screen.

Personally, I find them to be a waste of time and money. Too often inaccurate, and if I had a dollar for every time I've read some post that someone worried they are doing something wrong because their stix won't change colour - despite the fact they are losing weight beautifully, I would be one rich girl!

Cheers,

Roz

Thanks, I think i'll give them a miss. I haven't read any Atkins books or anything but used my own judgement and i have lost close to 2kg/week. As you mentioned Rosebud, I don't need some plastic strip to tell me I'm heading in the right direction.
thanks all though
