Default Exercise equipment question

My husband and I need to purchase exercise equipment- we are short on space- it has to be a cardio piece of equipement. We have small kids so going outside for a walk together is not an option and we are exteremly pressed for time so our best bet is a home piece of equipment.

We are considering a spin bike- is this a good idea for obese people or no?

If you can try one out to see if you like it... then buy it if you'll use it.

If it has to be a cardio piece of equipment, I can't recommend an elliptical enough.

We have one that is very silent. It is very easy on the body (i.e. joints), but you can really work up a sweat. Since they are so quiet, you can position it to watch t.v. or read very easily, and others in the room don't have to put up with a loud piece of equipment if you want to keep it in your living room.
