Default What med Doreen T?

Hi there, I read your response that you had your doc switch you back in March. What did she switch you from? Was it synthyroid? And what did she switch you back to? sabrina

Smile hi Sabrina

I didn't see your question before this .. sorry I didn't respond sooner.

I originally took levothyroxine, a generic form of synthetic T4 hormone,. I requested to have a trial of T3 added, but Cytomel is not available in Canada, so we are trying dessicated thyroid. I wasn't switched "back" to anything?

Angry thyroid

I was on "thyrolar" briefly and it made me feel great. Can you get that in Canada? Unfortunately, I moved and the doctor here in Virginia will not prescribe it. I'm now on a very low dose of Synthroid and Cytomel. I did Levothyroxine for years, but found that Synthroid is actually supposed to be better than then generic.

I've heard that you Canadians can get Armor, a bovine based replacement. I've read that Armor can really help with weight loss. But again, I can't get a doc who will prescribe it because they are afraid that they won't be able to find the right dose.

Any tips for those of us whose thyroids just don't work? Mine shrivelled up and quit working years ago. Taking weight off is next to impossible and I'm cold all of the time. Taking the medication doesn't help with weight loss, but helps my memory and keeps me from getting "thick tongue".

Default Hi Doreen - about Cytomel

I was just reading your post about not being able to get Cytomel in Canada - and wanted to let you know that I'm in Calgary, and haven't had any problem getting it. Maybe there's some way of getting it to you? Or if a chain like Shoppers would ship it?

I know adding the T3 to the T4 (synthroid) helped significantly - all of a sudden my hair wasn't falling out, and my teeth weren't breaking, and I actually lost 20 pounds in less than 2 months. (don't know which is those is priority any more - I can were a wig but a girdle only covers up so much - tee hee!)

Thanks for the info. Dawn. It must just be in Ontario then, since my dr. told me it wasn't formulary ... and my acupuncturist who is an M.D. said she has to get it special-ordered from a pharmacy in Ottawa.

Right now I'm on dessicated natural thyroid, 60mg. It contains both T4 and T3, as well as T2 and other trace thyroid hormones. My TSH is 1.6 ... I'd like it closer to 1, but I doubt I could convince the dr to increase my prescription.
