Default Question

I posted this in a different location and then I saw this thread and done a copy/paste:

I know I am bombarding you with questions and I apologize for that but I don't know if I don't ask.

Low-Carb has been known to irriate "Gout"..........is there anyone else here that has that and what foods should I avoid?

I have never had but one attack and I certainly under no circumstances want another one.

From what I have read it is the 'red' meats that are worse. Is that correct?

I don't suffer from gout..However, both my father, and father in law, do..from research i have done for them I have found this.

* Beer, other alcoholic beverages.
* Anchovies, sardines in oil, fish roes, herring.
* Yeast.
* Organ meat (liver, kidneys, sweetbreads)
* Legumes (dried beans, peas)
* Meat extracts, consomme, gravies.
* Mushrooms, spinach, asparagus, cauliflower.

However, each person reacts differently. My father eats shellfish, we grew up in Maine, with out much trouble. While, my father in law can't eat shrimp without getting an attack. Neither of them, can eat peanuts as they suffer attacks if they do.

My father in law eats bacon several days a week, even though they say its a high risk food. Both drink a lot of water and eat high amounts of veggies. FIL swears by Cauliflower and all the other veggies that are listed as not approved. lol.

Both my father and fil have to totally avoid organ meat like liver, kidneys, etc. They both eat red meat without trouble. they avoid most rich foods like gravies.

Its really a personal thing, bodies all react differently. If, you haven't had a flare up moderation would probably be key for you and i know that there are supplements that help to reduce uric acid as well.

Wine(red) beer and coffee can also trigger gout attacks.
