Default Lent - Ash Wednesday to Easter/Resurrection Day Challenge

Hello fellow low-carbers,

I thought it would be a great idea to begin and complete this challenge with my/our savior, Jesus Christ, in mind and in spirit. As low-carbers and as Christians we are asked to change and renew our lifestyle, to begin all things new again, and to let go or take stock of things that affect our current lifestyle. It is a season of penance, reflection, and fasting.

This challenge is open to all Christian denominations - all are welcomed.

Since Wednesday, February 21, 2007 is the first day of lent you can feel free to wait until then to add your name/weight, or you can check in today (I've started the list below) and modify it on Wednesday if necessary.

The rules are:

Weigh in on Wednesdays, except for the last weigh in will be on Monday, following the Easter/Resurrection Sunday.

Post 3 of your goals in honor of the Trinity.

All are welcome to share and have fun with this challenge, share spiritual, angelic experiences, positive experiences, favorite bible passages, biblical stories, favorite quotes, and/or anything relating to the Lord that magnifies His name, uplifts Him, and uplifts our spirits during this time of Lent and during our challenge to uplift one another.

Please refrain from denouncing anyone else’s denomination belief(s) and stick with the task at hand which is to magnify the Lord and to complete this challenge with the Lord as our guide.

Retreating Into the Wilderness with Jesus

It is most appropriate on Ash Wednesday - February 21, 2007, when we begin a period of sober reflection, self-examination, and spiritual redirection.

Lent is a season of soul-searching and repentance. It is a season for reflection and taking stock.

In the Western Christian calendar, Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. It occurs forty-six days before Easter, but Lent is nevertheless considered forty days long, because Sundays in this period are not counted as days of penance.

As you know, Jesus retreated into the wilderness and fasted for forty days to prepare for his ministry. It was for Him a time of contemplation, reflection, and preparation. By observing Lent, most Christians join Jesus on His retreat;
the individual Christian imitates Jesus’ withdrawal into the wilderness for forty days.

Ash Wednesday - February 21
Palm Sunday - April 1
Holy Thursday - April 5
Good Friday - April 6
Holy Saturday - April 7
Easter - April 8

Ash Wednesday to Easter Challenge Feb21 /Feb28/Mar7/ Mar14/ Mar21/ Mar28/ Apr4/Apr9

2007 (aka gail marie)....................... 252/

My goals:

1. To become new again by renewing my temple and spiritual self.
2. To make new friends that love the Lord like I do.
3. To be a better servant to the Lord.

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will grant you the desires of you heart ~Psalms 37:4

I am in Gail! What a great challenge!!

I will give up all sleep aids for Lent and assume that if I can't sleep, I should read God's word in case He has something to say to me

I will eat only kosher meats during Lent.

Welcome pre3teach.

Even though I listed my goals, I too need to think about them more as one of the goals should be geared toward something I'm willing to give up or sacrifice for Lent.

Many Blessings!

Welcome CYNMom!

I'm so glad you decided to join.

This challenge is going to be so enlightening and wonderful. How great it will be to walk in spirit with one another and the Lord as we uplift the Lord, and our temples and spirits.

This challenge will be SO much MORE than just successful weight loss, but a renewal in body and mind and the chance to meet people of like mind.

This is just so wonderful, again, thank you all for joining.

Thank you for joining the challenge. I'm hoping I will have to change my weight on Wednesday too. We'll see what happens.

Ash Wednesday to Easter Challenge Feb21/Feb28/Mar7/ Mar14/Mar21/ Mar28/Apr4/Apr9

Radicchio (Gabriel) .................... 206.5/

My goals:

1. To spend time in prayer and contemplation daily.
2. To relight and maintain my oil vigil lamp on my home altar.
3. To use this time of severity to aid me in building spiritual fortitude.

Here is a picture for you all that spoke to me a great deal:

The Refining Fire by Ron DiCianni.

But who may abide the day of his coming, and who shall stand when he appeareth? For he is like a refiner's fire...

Thngs have been very difficult for me for the last year, and I have felt like I was in the forge, on the anvil, and falling under the weight of my own cross, and sometimes too like I was hanging from it. I can see the improvements that are being wrought in my soul with all of this, on the occasion when the smoke and fire die down a little, and it gives me strength to continue.

I will pull another photo out of my collection for you on Wednesdays when we check in. Spiritual artwork is a great blessing to me.

Just to update the list and add myself to it:

Radicchio (Gabriel) ....................... 206.5/

I am a fairly new Christian. I returned to the fold about 19 months ago after I felt called to bring my daughter into the church. Since then, my daughter has been baptized, we both do a lot of community work, and I help teach the Sunday School. Sometimes I doubt that I am ready for all of this, but I have prayed about it and He keeps putting me where I need to be.

My goals for this challenge are:

1) To spend some time each day reading scripture and some time in prayer.
2) Walk a minimum of 5x per week, for no less than 30 minutes.
3) Sargeswife, I really like the idea of giving up sleep aids for lent. I, too, depend on them, and I never thought that there might be a reason for it until I read what you wrore. I would like to do this also, if that's ok.

I need to pray on this some more, but I think this is a good start. My overall goal is to become a stronger Christian, and I look forward to learning from you all. God bless.

I'm IN!

ThanksGM for starting this thread. It falls in line perfectly with my lent goals.

1. Don't be so hard on myself
2. Add quiet time with God to each day
3. Journal each day
4. Go to Him

"I can do all things through He who strengthens me."
