Default Reaching Goal

After waiting all weekend to weight in I finally hit my goal this morning.
I don't feel as satisfied as I thought honestly. I expected this huge rejoicing of my weight loss but now I keep asking myself if I cut myself short. Should my goal have been 135 maybe ? or 130?
I want to make it clear that I am so proud of myself for doing what I did. I love feeling healthy and can honestly say for the first time in a few years that I look the way I always saw myself.... sexy =).
For those that have reached goal did you feel the same when you did it ?
Maintenance is here to stay baby !

Default Perhaps it never was about the weight?

There are people in the world (a few, mostly men) who simply never worry about their weight. It's just not a big deal.

I'm having to watch this--how am I thinking my life will be any different when I am thin; will I EVER really think I am thin; ??? Can't even name all the questions right now.

I DO know I broke through a barrier at the 184# mark--I'm on the leaner side now. I can fit into normal clothes. I don't jump out as a "fat person," at least in this part of the country. I'm still not someone who turns heads, and do I think that's what it's about?

I've never been thin, except for a few weeks at 170#, 15 years ago when I was smoking. Couldn't hold it.

But all the while, I AM making massive changes in my life, in part fueled by the clarity and energy that accompany LC eating. Suspect they will lead to way more long-term satisfaction than any specific # on a scale. And goal weight, per se, is not my target as much as fitting into the next smaller size Levi's is. Now that the 34s rest easy, I'm eyeballing a pair of 33s.... And will 32 look good, or emaciated? Don't know. Stay tuned.

Goal weight is tough, especially if, like me, you've been yo-yoing for years.
I picked a weight I thought would get be back into my size 12's, only to find that, at 15 pounds greater than my goal weight, I fit into size 10's.
This is a wonderful dilemma. So I just revised my goal weight. I am down a few pounds lately, but I don't know if it's from a vicious bout of flu or just me still losing, just very slowly as I am so near a a good weight for me.
But I don't worry about it anymore. I look and feel good, and that's the important parts.
Weight is ONLY a number.

I actually upped my goal a little too. I had it set at 120 and then moved it to 125 after I was able to fit into my old clothes at a larger size. I'm not quite there yet but if I'm not happy I'll revise it. I think it will be okay though. Congratulations on reaching goal! That's wonderful!

Goal weights are especially difficult for those of us that in their adult lives were NEVER at an ideal body weight. I just randomly picked a number based on my frame size and knowing what other people weigh that were similar heights.

Once I reach my "goal weight", training my body in the weightroom will probably become numero uno priority instead of actually caring what a scale says. I tell everyone that "I am losing weight and getting in shape, so that I can THEN get in shape" If that makes any sense at all, LoL.

Hi there,

You made an interesting observation. I too was surprised not to be overjoyed at reaching my goal weight.

Let me share this story with you and make an observation later on: At some point as I was shedding pounds, I decided I better have a stopping point. I arrived at my goal weight by using a Body Mass Index (BMI) website. I figured that the middle of the "normal" BMI range for my height would be my goal weight.

Well, I got there a couple of weeks ago. I still have a little paunch and love handles, and there's no hint of a 'sixpack stomach'. So what now? I guess I'll need to revise the goal to suit my expectations, rather than some chart.

So here's my philosophical thought: The scale is just a gauge or measuring stick for something we are *really* seeking, whether it's improved health, appearance, or self-image. For me, the true exhiliration wasn't about hitting a target weight. It has been taking back control of my body, feeling better, and looking better.
