Unhappy

Hi Everyone, This is my first time posting. I started Atkins on April 1 and went merrily along for two weeks losing 17 pounds. Then I decided (stupidly) to take one day off for Easter and then go right back on. Even though I actually ate very little that day that was "bad" and kept my calories to around 1200 for the day, the next morning the scale showed a 9 pound gain. I have been strictly following Atkins again ever since. It took me 5 days to get back in the purple zone. Now I'm 5 days purple and no weight loss. HELP! I actually eat very little (around 700-800 calories a day usually) and I have been keeping my carbs under 15 grams daily. I'm taking the Atkins vitamins regularly.

Aargh. This is so frustrating. A little history. Over the last 2 years I have lost about 180 pounds. I had gastric bypass surgery (which is why I eat so little). But now, here I am still hovering above the 200 pound mark which on a 5-7 frame is about 60 pounds overweight. There was a time I thought I would be thrilled to be here happily wearing size 16 jeans, but I really want to be THIN! I'm so close I just have to get there!

Does anyone have any suggestions that could help me break through?

Thanks!
Patti

Hi Patti,

Welcome aboard. To be honest with you, eating so little might be the cause. Low-calorie diets work great in the first few weeks, and then your metabilism slows down to stabalize your weight at such low-calorie level.

This same issue keeps coming back, and my advice is always eat and feed your metabolism, treat it as a furnace that needs feeding to burn more fat.

You know, you may have a point there. The first two weeks when everything was going so well I ate on average about 5 small meals a day. Now I'm only eating the standard 3. I think I'll make a point to add those extra meals in again. Maybe that would make me less cranky too! Thanks for your suggestion. I'll keep you posted.
