Default do you use protein powder?

Do you use protein powder and if so what brand? The one I love is Sun Warrior but it's 4 g of carbs (3 of fiber).

Thanks!

That's good for carbs...Isopure has a zero carb, but in those big 3 pound jugs...would take me years to use it up. Vitamin Shoppe has it.

For the few times I use a Whey Protein, pick up a Designer Whey at Trader Joe's. 6g carbs, 3 fiber, 2g sugar. Not great, not a disaster. I was using Quest, 2 net carb, but that has disappeared from shelves, still on-line.

I used to use protein powder because it was so convenient, but found that whey dairy proteins are inflammatory, insulinogenic, stall & craving-inducing for me. And hemp and other non-dairy powders taste awful, so now I get all my protein from real foods. YMMV, but just a heads up that if you experience stalls or cravings, it could be the powder.

I generally avoid it for the same reasons as deirdra, but I keep some on hand. I buy small amounts of plain whey protein from the local bulk store, because like Janet, it would take me forever to go through a big container and I don't have the space in my kitchen.

I keep it for the odd recipe, and it's handy if I'm not feeling well or it's a sweltering summer day and I can't stomach real food. I'll make a smoothie in my Magic Bullet.

"Designer Whey" was my favorite, back when I used it more often. I've had some that taste so bad, I've ended up throwing them out and the thought of them today still makes me cringe. I don't remember the brand, but I had one that was supposed to be strawberry banana flavoured and it was vile. I order supplements online and they always send me free samples - I'd never buy one again without tasting it first.

Your brand sounds fine - I'd be satisfied with 1 g sugar + 3 g fiber.

I do designer whey. Was having a shake every morning for breakfast, but winter here is sooo cold that I have given it up till the heat comes back...

Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Casein Protein Powder, Chocolate Supreme has 2g carbs net, is slow to digest so there's (hopefully) less of an insulin spike and with even a bit of HWC is very yummy.

Interesting search results when you google "whey protein powder" and "Alzheimer's". I no longer use it at all.

You have to use it some if over 65 for easy digestion.

I have had good luck with "Body Fortress" available at Walmart. Mix with HWC and half water or hanf-n-Half. Can also whip the chocolate flavor with very cold cream into an Ice Cream like treat

Mike, What happened to my digestion last year that I need to use protein powder?!

Thanks for the tip about Body Fortress at Walmart. Though 8g carbs and 4g of sugar for Banana flavor, seems high.

The Quest powder was at Walmart less than a year, though can get it off their website. The Epigenix Foundation hasn't posted the talks from past February conference, don't answer emails, and the QuestKeto site has been shut down. The main food company is introducing new products but sorry the Foundation doesn't seem to be progressing.

Thanks everyone! I know real food is better, but there are times when it's handy to have protein powder. I think I like about the Sun Warrior is that there's no dairy in it as it's vegan, it's also very good.
