This is another book I have, and it not only sound relatively low-carb but also incredibly easy to follow, at least for the initial weight loss stage. No counting carbs, calories, fats, or anything. Here's the initial weight loss diet:

Breakfast: one cup coffee or tea with no sugar, one slice whole wheat toast with no topping, and as much egg white omelet as you want.

Lunch/Dinner: As much chicken or seafood as you like, provided it's not battered or fried. Sauce is ok, as long as it's veggie or olive oil based. Also, as much non-starchy veggies as you want with olive oil or vinegar based dressing.

This sounds incredibly appealing to me. It's going to be low-carb by default, and I like not having to count actual carb grams, calories, or portion sizes. It also seems like it would be easy to dine out on. Once you get to your goal weight, the book has some amazing recipes for tasty meals which are heavy on the olive oil and fish.

I think you have to like to cook, though, to do this one long term (I do, fortunately.) It might not be the best for everyone, but I think it would work for somebody who needs to lower their carbs some but not to Atkins Induction level.

Dr. Steve Parker (google him) recommends the Med diet and is currently testing a ketogenic version on himself.
he says red wine is an integral part and he also consumes certain amt nuts and olive oil daily....also measured amt vegies and attempts the usual fiber recommendation.

there're claims that olive oil improve insulin resistance.
i'm going to try it out.

the Med diet is not for weight loss. you definitely have to cut the carbs and add protein for that.
i will never eat just egg whites!!

I eat egg whites (1/2 to 1 cup) everyday nicely cooked in butter. I find yolks too strong tasting after a while.

Hey jem51,

I've had great success on Dr. Steve Parker's ketogenic plan. It was the only thing that jump started a loooong plateau. And the foods I'm eating are what I enjoy. Love his website. I purchased the book, am waiting to receive it, and for now am just using the 3 page pdf on his web site. I've lost 7 lbs in less than two weeks.

That is a great weight loss. I've never heard of this particular diet and it just proves that the diet industry is still flourishing.
