Talking More Curries!

Hi all,

I've just had two really yummy curries again from Sainsbury's even lower in carbs than before!

Eastern Indian range:

Prawn Malai Curry

1/2 pack

350 cal
15.4g protein
2.8g carb!!
30.8g fat
2.2g fibre

It was really creamy and yummy!

Southern Indian range:

Chicken Madras

1/2 pack
318 cal
26.6g protein
3.6g carb
21.8g fat
2.6g fibre

Hubby and me share two packs normally, with me having slightly less than a 1/2 pack as the serving is large. This time I made some plain cauliflied rice, shredded 90g of cauli, and fried it in some olive oil and sprinkled in a little dried garlic. It was fab!!!

The packs are around £3.50 each, but I normally get mine when they are reduced or on offer and freeze them!

Default Patak's Hot Lime Pickle

Most relishes and pickles one might want to put on cold meats or cheese contain sugar. Patak's Hot Lime Pickle, which is available at most UK supermarkets and has no added sugar and hence a very low carb content (just from the very sour limes, I guess). It might be a bit hot for some people, but has rescued me from reaching for the ketchup, branston or HP many times.

NFLI do low carb ready made up shakes with added vitamins and minerals plus chromium, gymnema sylvestre and garcinia cambogia/HCA to aid weight loss. Chocolate fudge or French Vanilla flavours. They do have soya protein isolate in them but taste nice.

Default Low Carb Supermarket Products

Hi all

I'm new here but started Atkins in January (fell off for a bit but back on now!)

Anyway, I'm not much of a cook so I managed to hunt down a few ready meals. Bit more expensive but a real time saver :

Tesco Bistro Cod Mornay - £2.99 (I think!) 4.0g for the whole 360gm pack

Tesco Simple Solutions 2 Chicken Breasts with Leek, Cheese & Bacon - £2.99 - 1g carbs per breast

Tesco Simple Solutions 2 Chicken Breasts in Red Wine Sauce with bacon, mushroom & baby onions - £2.99 - 1.3g carbs per breast

I'm off to Sainsburys tomorrow for a change so I'll let you know if I find anything else.

Bye for now!

Default More UK Food

Hello all

I'm new to this forum but thought I would add a few things I've found along the way:

ASDA
2 peppered steaks with peppercorn sauce £1.98 (1.3gms per 1/2 pack) cooks from frozen in about 10 mins - really delicious

They also do a no sugar added tin of rhubarb which isn't too high in carbs

SAINSBURYS
2 Chargrilled Chicken Fillets with olive oil, coriander & lemon juice £2.99 (2.7gms per breast) a bit pricey but a great just bung in the oven quick meal and really tasty

2 Chargrilled chicken Fillets with olive oil, red onions, balsamic vinegar & basil £2.99 (1.7gms per breast) as above

TESCO
In their Simple Solutions range they do a pack of about 5 large chicken legs in a spicy coating which are really low in carbs. Hot N Spicy Chicken Legs I think they're called - £1.99 for the pack I think.

This thread is so helpful!

Have found a few things so far which are -

Safeway

Kabanos - Polish sausages are 1.1 carbs per sausage and nice raw or cooked

Also do great chorizo at the deli counter but not sure of the carb rating

Most supermarkets

Campbell's beef bouillon is lovely and pretty much carb free - great with onions and gruyere cheese to make french onion soup

Also the full fat concentrated Campbells Chicken and Oxtail soups are 3.9g and about 6g prospectivelly which is great as a soup or sauce for meat.

Thumbs up Gratitude - Next Step

Thank you everyone who has posted here. It really is good information and I come back to this thread everytime I am stuck for ideas.

Perhaps we could take it a stage further and put the information in Yellow Pages of LC Tools so that anyone anywhere in the world would have easy access to these discoveries by UK LCers.

This is the link for making your entry there. It would be greatly appreciated and welcomed by visiting LCers to UK.

Take care.

Thumbs up Anyone fancy sausages?

Hi there,

Thought I would tell you all about finding really LC sausages in Waitrose. They are reasonably good tasting. Called Premium Pork Sausages, 8 in pack for £2.09. They give a bit more variety to breakfasts. Thank goodness.

Nutritional Information - per sausage

Calories: 137
Protein: 8.3g
Carbs: 0.8g
Fat: 11.2g
Fibre: 0.85g
Sodium: 0.34g

If you try them let me know what you think.

Happy LCing

Anne

Thumbs up Lidl - Mayonaise - Very LC and Cheap

Hi guys,

If you have a Lidl near you, then they have a new packaged mayo out which is even lower than Hellman's, brand name Vita D'or.

per 100g =

727kc
0.93g carb
0.57g protein
80g fat

I haven't opened the jar yet, so I don't know what it tastes like. But their other one was OK so this should be, and it's a LOT cheaper than Hellman's.

Bye

Thumbs up Green Tea

Wing Yip and most Chinese Shops as well as some of the larger supermarkets stock Green Tea, which has great anti-oxidant properties as well as other benefits.

Temple of Heaven (Brand Name) Chinese Green Tea 250g packet at Wing Yip costs £1. I like to use the loose tea as it gives me control. A couple of grains is better than plain water.

You can also obtain Green Tea Teabags from there and other shops which work out dearer.

Take care.

Someone mentioned the kabanos at Safeway being 1.1 g carb per sausage?

The ones they sell at Sainsbury's come 6 to a packet (entire packet weighs 150g) and the carb count is "less than 0.1g" per 100 g of kabanos!

Post Findings So Far

SAINSBURYS -

In my Sainsburys in the allergys section they have packets of roasted pumpkin seeds, expensive at £1.29 for a little packet but they are much nicer than non roasted seeds for a quick snack.

Sainsburys Tzatziki - carb 3.7 per 100g, not too high in carb and makes a lovely dressing for salad etc.

Creme Fraiche - reasonable price and I think nicer and thicker than the normal soured cream.

They also have macadamia nuts.

ASDA -

They have big packets of nuts at very reasonable prices - the latest mix I got though salted had hazelnuts, cashews, pecans, macadamia nuts, almonds - this is in a purple foil pack.
