Default low cortisol

So.... I haven't seen my blood work yet, it is still in the mail. Talked to the nurse and she gave me a few of my stats.

low vit d
low cortisol
tsh - 7.5!!! UGGGG Thanks new Armour company!!!
FT4 - .015 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Anyway, I knew when I got my last refill of my thyroid medicine that it wasn't working. Which I posted here. Switching to a compounding pharmacy....I sure hope it works!!

Now the low cortisol thing. I don't know the number, but it seemed really low. They want me to do a 24 hour urine test. I have looked all over the place and can't figure out why. I understand the Addison's disease or cushing's disease....but that is all I got our of what I looked up.

Can someone explain?

Thanks,

Cortisol changes all the time, so what is low at that particular moment, might be high a few hours from now. That's why they like to do a 24 hour test so they get 3-4 measurements (from spit, I think) during the 24 hours.

This will be a urine test. When I looked up why...I just didn't really understand what it would actually show.....

Probably an average of your cortisol over 24 hours.

Spit test is far more valuable, and it's possible you can do it yourself, cheaper.
