Smile Protein Bars

I am a protein bar junkie - I work crazy hours and don't always manage to pack lunch - I travel around NYC, long Island and westchester - my meetings can go from an hour to 10 hours - I can never know ahead of time how long they will be. I used to live on Balanced Gold bars - but theya re carb hell - any suggestions as to which ones I can eat on a regular basis as a meal replacement??
Thank you.
Tammy

You'll probably do better with mixed nuts and jerkey.

I recently researched this very topic for a friend who eats a lot of protein bars, and is considering switching to LC, and basically came up with nothing.

I haven't bought any of these recently but Jonny Bowden used to sell some called Paleobars which were pretty good and decent on carb counts. I recall around 7 carbs per bar. You may have to try various flavors to find one you like. I liked the coconut ones. I was thinking about this yesterday and thought I might buy a few to have on hand. I got into a situation of eating less than ideal food yesterday and I would have done better if I had a bar.

there are also recipes to make your own if you are that industrious.

Tammy, I do what Ruth suggested. It's pretty tricky to come up with bars that have enough protein without being really carby. The jerky I eat is Jack Links original with 3g carbs and 15g protein per ounce.

HI LESSLIZ,
CAN YOU TELL ME WHERE TO GET THAT JERKY? EVERYTHING I HAVE SEEN AT THE STORE HAS LOTS OF CARBS AND SUGAR.

THANKS
PATTI

Patti -- check out WalMart. That is the only place I've seen it.

I keep these on hand:

http://www25.netrition.com/ostrim_page.html

All jerky is very low fat, though, so it won't give you the satiety of fattier meat.

Two additional options are individually wrapped cheeses that don't require refrigeration (like Laughing Cow, maybe Baby Bel Paese) and also single-serving envelopes or cans of whey protein drinks. There are hundreds of these that are low carb. The former you can find at ordinary groceries, the latter at health food stores and body builder stores everywhere.

HTH

Afterthought: these work too, they taste okay, use in moderation:

Question is this a bar to use or avoid?

what do y'all think about Oh Yeah! Protein Wafer Bars (http://www.netrition.com/iss_oh_yeah_wafer_bars.html):
Per Serving-
Total Calories 210
Total Fat 13g
Saturated Fat 6g
Cholesterol 2mg
Sodium 130mg
Total Carbs 8g
Dietary Fiber 2g
Sugars 2g
Protein 14g

I had one with some bottled water when I was waiting in the ER for my MIL recently; it kept me satiated. For occasional use???
