Default Tripledigitloserville has a new resident!!

Well today I finally broke the century mark for wt loss after 168days of dieting!

Except for the first couple weeks, it's been 'strictly' LC for me. I use this calculator Ruhl Calculator to help determine appropriate protein and calorie levels for specific wt loss rate goals.

On my diet: I drink only water and try not to eat any sugar/starch/grains/artificial sweetners. I don't snack or have 'deserts'. I don't eat after 6pm or before 8am, providing at least a 14hr ifast. I sometimes extend this, since hunger does not seem to be a major issue for me (I just drink lots of water if 'hunger' strikes between meals)... I eat at most 3 meals a day. I've restricted cheese/nuts/fruits to very small quantities (half oz or less per day normally). I eat mainly 'real foods' and avoid most processed products.

I 'only' have 25 pounds to go and am looking forward to adding a few more cals, carbs, cheese, nuts and fruit in the near future...

Actually what you don't eat may be more important, especially for me since I needed to break habits of 6pk/day diet pepsi with boo-koo jelly donuts, candy bars, malts, mashed taters, etc etc etc. But enough food porn. I eat meat, typically ~4oz/meal and nonstarchy veggies like asparagus, salads, green beans, cauliflower, etc. I like chicken thighs baked with crispy skins, steaks, BACON, sausage, hamburgers(no buns!), fish, shrimp, pork, ham, etc... My fat/protein/carb ratio avgs about 56/36/8 with avg cals for the last 4 months ~1100/day... I know that's very low, but I do get my required protein in and seem to have plenty of energy for my retired 'light activity level'... Normally my total carbs are <20g/day and protein ~90+g... I normally restrict cheese to a half oz(an oz tops), occasionally will have a few berries, etc, and a half oz of almonds or pecans is a rare 'treat'... If that sounds rather austere and unsustainable, well... it's worked for me so far... Good Luck!

Edit: P.S. In a recent Letterman interview Alec Baldwin gave out similar list of things he didn't eat and Letterman asked him what was left and joked Alec lost all his wt eating only pocket lint...

Thanks! I guess I was lucky in that I didn't have a junk food habit to break. That said, I was eating lots and LOTS of carbs...oatmeal, sandwiches, pasta, rice, etc., and very little protein or fat. No sugars or sweets, though.

Fortunately, I enjoy salads and veggies, so am not having any issues with that part of the diet. No cravings, either. The high fat content of my diet seems to be suppressing my appetite, too, which is such a relief from the low-fat, hi-carb diet I was on.

And thanks for the link. The calculator looks like it will be very useful!

Congrats again!

What an inspiring success story! You steadily lost more than one pound every two days. It took intense commitment, but you have already seen improvements in many health markers. Congrats!

Thanks JEY! I've slowed a bit, but still try to lose 3/wk. Soon I'm switching gears slightly to 2.5/wk, by upping my kcals, carbs, and maybe fat goals... I'll take it slow though. I see the doctor next month to get updated labs and want to see how being statin-free effects my blood work... MY BP is phenomenal, I just did a 117/77 at Walmart the other day. My pulse rate is even dropping... My walking is getting faster and longer. Maybe some running is in my future, but I can't seem to find my stride yet.
