Default Bacterial Battery Converts Sugar Into Electricity

Another great use for all that {high carb} sugar, think it might get the Sugar Lobby off the backs of the low carbers? -- if they can find enough market for their product between Sanyo's Biodegradable CDs and a renewable energy source like these bacteria!

What a great idea! Maybe we can even get away from our dependency on hydroelectric before all the wild salmon populations go extinct in the Pacific NW.

researchers describe a primitive microbial fuel cell that can convert simple sugars into electricity with 81 percent efficiency.
I wonder what happens to the other 19%, and what the waste byproducts are?

your link didn't work for me, this is the page I went to: http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?ar...189EEDF&catID=1

Can you see the day, when you glide into a MacDonalds drive-thru, eat the meat and cheese, throw the bun, fries and shake into the hopper of your bacteria-mobile, strange and eerie burping noises come forth as the bacteria do their thing, and you glide silently away into the night, powered by microbial-electro-carbohydrate energy!!
