Menopause was about 10 years ago & I had hot flashes of & on until about a year ago. Now I'm getting cold flashes! At night I'll wake up chilled & it takes a while to warm up again. Has nothing to do with the temperature in the room.

I had hot flashes for about 10 years then they went away for about 9 years. This summer they have come back with a vengeance. I have to take a large cotton dinner napkin everywhere I go as the moment I start to feel warm my face become drenched! The rest of my body seems to not have a problem. No problems at night either.

My doctor advises me everyone is different. Some have them for a few years and others will have them forever. I, personally, am not willing to have HRT due to the serious side effects associated with it. But then I do not eat any frankenfoods or any foods with added chemicals etc. i eat very cleanly and since I have started doing so have had a reduction in the severity of hot flashes. And it is July in Florida! lol

I don't get them anymore, I don't think. But I'll still, occasionally, wake up with night sweats. Part of it is that Husband is like an oven. But the other part is that sudden changes in temp can trigger them.

I don't eat any frankenfoods or processed foods either but the hot weather triggers them. Once it cools down I should get some relief. That will be sometime in September - or October - or November.

I have started taking Estroven OTC herbs as it did help me years ago.

I am not in menopause, but close, at age 51. In fact, I just had a period after six months without. It started two weeks after I started low carb, so I am wondering if the reduction in blood glucose (I was running at pre-diabetic levels) stabilized my estrogen/progesterone too.

So, I can't really properly answer your question, but I will say that this past winter, with central heating, I was having a terrible time with hot flashes. Every time the heat went on, wherever I was, I had to remove layers or go outside. They stopped after it warmed up and no more heating the house/office. This was the only time I have ever had a problem with hot flashes.
