Smile hi SusanMarie, welcome aboard

Sorry to hear that your blood sugars are out of whack, lowcarbing will help for sure. I see in your profile that you've read a number of lowcarb books Knowledge is power, and in this case, knowledge is health too!

Another book you might want to consider is "Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution: A Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars". It is useful for anyone wanting to control their blood sugars with low-carb diet ... whether on insulin or oral medication or not. You can probably find a copy at the library to borrow. There are a few chapters of the book posted at his website http://www.diabetes-normalsugars.com/

Keep us posted how you're doing: I'm looking forward to reading all about your lowcarb success..

Doreen

Hi Susanmarie.

You are awfully young to be faced with high blood sugar issues. You'll be happy to know that lowcarbing is the Godsend to insulin problems and blood sugar issues.

My dh is type 2 diabetic and low carbing got him to such a stable position, he was able to go off his oral medications.

The only TIP I have for someone like you however, is to STICK with it. If you have insulin issues at your young age, the earlier you address it, the more likely you can stave off type 1 diabetes. (Do you have diabetes in your family?)

The reason I say this is that my dh is a person who can't live without bread, so although he initially did GREAT, he thought doing GREAT meant he could veer off from lowcarbing. So now he's back on the meds. and back on the bread .

The only thing worse than having insulin issues, is watching somebody else have them and KNOW the answer but be unable to get it through their heads.

Oh well, we are all only responsible for ourselves, no one else.

Welcome, I'm new to this board too.

Default Yuck - diabetes

Welcome to a great site!

I'd like to encourage you too that you've chosen the BEST way to control your diabetes. I, too, am a Type 2 diabetic and from the first day of LC I've been able to drop 5mg Diabeta (Glyberide) daily .... and my blood sugars are just as good if not better. My doc is pleased with the blood work & attributes it to this LC WOL and the resulting weight loss.

Doreen's right about Dr B's Diabetes Solution. Once I read a few chapters online, I dashed out to get my own copy. I recommend it to everyone I know with D.

For inspiration, go to the Journal/Bootcamp to read our ongoing stories. Great stuff.

You go girl, your bld sugars will be improving quickly.

Ruth
