Default question: Whey protein VS. soy protein?

I need to find out whether whey protein isolate can be substituted for soy protein isolate? This is in a brownie recipe, but just in general for dessert recipes? And--of lesser importance-- do cookbook authors usually use sweetened or unsweetened protein powders, or should they indicate?

I looked for help in the front of the book, but not much forthcoming there. Can anyone advise?

Many thanks in advance,
Leigh
