Default Heart rate

Cardio is anything that constantly keeps your heart rate for minimum 20 minutes in the target zone - between 60-85% of your maximum hear rate. (50-60% is recommended if you are beginner in cardio.)
Your estimated max heart is 220 minus your age. (But it depends on your fitness level, health etc.)

I would recommend you to buy a heart rate monitor (you can get a decent one for $50-60), it can help a lot.

It is important: sweating is not a measurment of your cardio intensity, but a measurment of the temperature, humidity of your gym:-)

How long you should do it? Minimum 5 mins warm up, 20 mins keeping your heart rate in the target zone and minimum 5 mins cool down.

Maybe I am wrong, but as much as I know about Bowflex, it is very hard to use it for cardio. If you use too big resistance, you cannot do it for 20+10 minutes, if you use little resistance, it will not elevate your heart rate to the target zone.

Zach,

I would consider it cardio.
My heart rate gets going
once I start Bowflexing! As
long as you keep your workout
at a constant pace and don't
slow down. Or have a slow poke
working out with you like my
sister...LOL!
However, I use it mostly
for strength training and my
abs. ( I am working on a 2 pack
instead of a 6 pack...LOL) My
hubby says that he has a keg.

I also do cardio to Tae bo and
it gets the ticker ticking. My
3 yr old niece likes to jump
around with us and found that
we like the end result, because
she is ready for bed earlier on
those nights. Ha!
My chiro says that if he had to
choose only 1 piece of exercise equip
to buy it would be the Bowflex.
They are wonderful!

How long have you been using it?
I wouldn't trade it for anything!

Nice meeting you.

Tanya
