Smile Trying my first good fast

I'm on LCHF.
Missed my morning eggs today.
Lunch and I don't feel hungry.
So I am going to fast.
As long as I can.

Note: fasting for me will be no food, but coffe w/ 1 cream and water is allowed.

Hi! I am also doing LCHF and added intermittent fasting recently. I also dont count water or my coffee with cream in the morning and it's working great for me.

I would recommend that if you start feeling weak (or not) that you take 1/4 tsp salt every few hours and chase it with a glass of water. It's amazing how it gives you quick energy!

I had a Bovril packet of chicken stock for dinner.
I'm at the 24hr mark for my fast. Was quite easy.

I've found intermittent fasting very helpful. Most days I won't start eating until noontime and then stop eating by 8 p.m. That eight-hour eating window (16 hrs. fasting) does the trick for me - i.e., I feel like it gives my digestive system a chance to rest and reset and keeps me from overeating. I'm steadily losing 1-2 pounds a week ever since practicing the IF.

Hi there, VLC.MD,

You must not have been here for long enough to be aware that this forum supports intermittent fasting, and intermittent fasting only. We do not permit discussion of prolonged fasting.

Please read Admin Doreen's post below for further information:
Quote:
Concerns have been raised over the increased use of extended water-only fasts and other forms of severely restricted nourishment for prolonged periods of time. This is in contrast to the various published IF (Intermittent Fasting) protocols which advocate short-duration "fasts" of 18 to 24 hours, with optimal nutrition on non-fasting days in between. Short-duration IF has been shown to be safe for weight loss in overweight and obese adults. However, even the expert authors of these IF programs recommend prolonged fasting ONLY under medical supervision. Here at Active Low-Carber, we are in full agreement with this position. Please note that Forum Rule #2 states:
Quote:
... It is beyond the scope of our support community to prescribe a diet plan for you, so we encourage you to consult your doctor and read one or more of the published program books. Once you've decided which plan is right for you, we are here to help you along the way. Please note, we only discuss published plans, not proprietary, clinic-only type of plans as these require personal and/or professional supervision, and we cannot give medical advice or service..
Thus .. seeking support, encouragement and/or promotion of prolonged fasting is consdered beyond the scope of this forum and such discussion is not appropriate here. We understand that some members may indeed be under medical supervision for such a regimen; if they want to document their experience it should be confined to the relative privacy of their journal. Thanks for understanding,

http://forum.lowcarber.org/showpost...3&postcount=241

So no further discussion of fasting (other than IF) please.

~JEY100 - how long does Dr. Fung say Fasting is a "safe" for ?
For a guy with good renal function, no meds, and no health problems ?

I had no plans to set new fasting records.

I was surprised how easy it happened.

VLC.MD, as I laid out to you pretty clearly, the issue here is that you are not to discuss your fasting on this forum, so please stop doing so.

I'm not fasting anymore.
I just asked Jey a question.

I was hoping to hear what Dr. Fung thought about the issue, and I know Jey is a Fung expert.

Sorry.

Just to be clear ... Is question and answer discussion on the topic of fasting a no-no as well ? I honestly dont know anything about it. Nor do I know what isn't fasting ... does my 3 eggs this morning make me no longer fasting ? Is there a calorie requirement ? What If I only had one egg ?

EDIT: I read that link you provided. Thanks. That helped. I guess if I am under eating I should discuss it in my journal only. Got it.

There is quite a grey area re: what is "Restricted Nourishment" ? Is cream cheese 4 times too restricted nourishment ?

I ate my 3 eggs today to break my fast. Is that still restricted ? I guess this is just judgement calls. Hard and Fast rules arent really possible I guess.

Anyway. Thanks for looking out for me and others !

Dr Fung has an eight part series on Fasting at the DietDoctor website, his own website IntensiveDietaryManagement filled with info, and a few very active Facebook pages for practical tips.
