Default In Ketosis and still not losing weight!

Me and my wife started a low carb, high fat diet 5 weeks ago. We get roughly 70-80% calories from fat and eating less than 30 carbs a day, and moderate protein. We are also supplementing with MCT or coconut oil. I have done very well on the diet, but my wife just hasn’t lost. She is 48 years old and not overweight (139lbs), but she wants to lose some belly fat. So, we bought a blood meter to check ketone levels two weeks ago and she measured 2.8 mmol/L then and today she measured 2.2, so she is well into ketosis. So my question is; Can you be in ketosis and NOT lose weight? This appears to be her situation. Any advice would be appreciated.

Short answer: yes. She may be at a healthy weight now (which you basically say) and/or may be eating enough to maintain rather than lose.

While a general low carb ketogenic diet helps most people lose weight, some people need to be more careful with protein and or calories as well as the other aspects of a low carb diet in order to lose. I found a lot of value in Jenny Ruhl's book " Diet 101" for understanding the finer points.

Any inch loss? For me it was inch loss before weight loss! I didn't have much to lose. I was in ketosis as well, I had to watch my fat intake as really high fat didn't move the scale. As I lowered the fat the melt down began. Hang in there!

I would say yes, I am in Ketosis and in 4 weeks lost 3 lbs however I lost almost 2" over chest, waist and hips.
