Default Lies, Damned lies, and statistics

I found an interesting article on the misuse of statistics and the laziness of reporters on Tom Venuto's blog: Steady State Cardio Proven 5 X More Effective Than HIIT!”

I haven't looked into this Tom Venuto's blog in great detail but HIIT is proven extremely effective for cardio and weight loss

Hi Victoria,

No one's disputing the effectiveness of HIIT. Venuto was just trying to ground the results in reality, and discredit some hype surrounding this training method.

Hi JJ_Sungirl,

I've read Venuto's mini-course on exercise. I like his stress that exercise is essential to healthy weight loss and that great results require lots of work. But I'm disappointed by his stance on diet, in which he asserts a "one-size-fits-most" paradigm.

Hahaha good article!

Lyle has been preaching the fact for some time now, that HIIT calorie benefits (ie, the "Afterburn") are not as significant as some would have you believe. Now it seems like everyone is jumping on that--even Alwyn Cosgrove is backpedaling about HIIT now, (see his blog)

Just goes to show that, as with most things, moderation is key. A little HIIT, a little ss cardio, some weight training is all good--no ONE way is THE way.

i tend to believe this as well. i like HIIT ok and did it quite a bit back in the early 90's but a good hour walking or on a stairmaster (back then) gave me far better results.

The one thing I've learned...never think you've heard the "last word" on anything. About time I think, I've got it....they change it.
