Default Got through heart surgery any questions just ask !

Hi Guys.

Have been through open heart surgery.

If any of you have any question, or preparing for such an event, (maybe relative or friend will undergo open heart surgery)

Just ask anything that you would like to know!

I was scared as hell not to know what will wait for me in the hospital.

So if I can answer your question hopefully will help you to get a peace of mind.

Regards

Thomas

Thx NoBREAD. Feeling great!. I am onlly 4 months post op, but everything back to normal. I have stopped the painkillers at about 3 month, still got the "odd" collarbone pain every now and again, but nothing that I couldn't live with. Mind you I left the hospital 10 days after the surgery. I did not wanted to go to rehab, so I signed a vaiwer to release me home.
But so far so good. I feel like before. can't wait for the 6 months mark to go back to my cardio training. Hope you doing OK. are you on warfarin too?

Thank you so much for starting this thread, it is exactly what I was hoping to find on these forums. I have a new boyfriend who wants to join me in eating low carb. He lost 60lbs 15 years ago on Atkins so he knows it works. Here's the problem: he had open heart surgery 10 years ago and takes a beta blocker and lipitor to lower cholesterol. My w.o.e. isn't just low carb, it is also high fat. In your experience, is a high fat diet still okay after heart surgery and, if so, what would be the best way to explain this to the BF when the saturated fat subject comes up - which it will this weekend. Any advice about low carbing after heart surgery would be much appreciated.

Hi, I have been eating low carb for several years now and feel great. Basically, I don't eat wheat of any kind, no whole grains, pasta, or cereals. I have ups and downs and haven't followed this perfectly but it's the healthiest way to feed your body.

I eat tuna with mayo, and red peppers or celery., avocados, walnuts, almonds, other nuts, all veggies, eggs, salmon, occasionally a burger or beef but that's because I never was much of beef eater. I have cream in my coffee. Sometimes I'll have a half banana, pineapple, apples dipped in peanut butter., berries, plain greek yogurt with a bit of splenda is also good. There is so much more.

The key is to avoid wheat like the plague. Also research it on your own. Dr Davis is a cardiologist who believes in low carb. You can read the Heart Scan blog without becoming a member of Track Your Plaque and get lots of good information.

Whofan: I am doing LC so obviously I am eating all of the foods that known for high cholesterol, but to balance that out, I am "snacking" on protein shakes. Just to get the hunger away. My wife came up with the idea, trying to guard my cholesterol level.
I am happy to say that I just been to a blood test and my Cholesterol level is actually too low !
