Hi, I've been keeping carbs below 45 for about 10 weeks now and have lost 9 pounds. Over the last 6 weeks I've been having horrible heartburn. I don't want to take Prilosec or Nexium because of the dangerous side effects. Any safe suggestions?

see if you can determine what might be causing it by eliminating, first, the thing you "like" most in your new way of eating. Unfortunately sometimes those things are the ones, sometimes they are not Experiment and Welcome

Sometimes it's the additives in food and drink that can cause heartburn. Like citric acid, for example. Some carbonated beverages cause it for me, too. Too much dairy can trigger it as well. I agree, cutting one possible culprit out at a time and seeing if it makes a difference is the best way to go.

In the meantime, I've found that a teaspoon or two of apple cider vinegar helps calm my heartburn almost instantaneously.

Welcome Kak,

Good job on the the weight loss.

My Mom has been successful keeping heartburn away by using coconut oil (in sold form, she takes a tablespoon or so). Google it.
