Default I hate PCOS!!!!

Hi
I am new here. I have PCOS and I hate it. I was diagnosed 4 years ago and MY GP's have done NOTHING to help me, other than putting me on the pill. First pill was Dianette which did not suite me at all, and I was then put on Yasmin which normal, no side effects at all.
The thing that has annoyed me is I have quite obviously had PCOS since puberty. I started mt periods young at 12, but my periods were never regular, several trips to the doctors and I was told they would 'settle' and they never did. At 18 (an in a serious relationship) my periods stopped for 7 months and I was having discharge from my nipples,(so you can imagine what I thoughT!) i was reffered to a specialist who told me that my piturity gland was over producing prolactin and was put on medication to lower it. Still didnt get regular periods. I stuck with it until I was about 26 and started to hear about PCOS and my symptoms were spot on. My GP referred me for a Scan (I had to beg!) and PCOS was diagnosed, so when I went back he told me there was no cure, it was just something I had to live with, and suggested putting me on the pill to regulate my periods. I am also upset about my weight, I hardly eat yet still cant lose weight, but I am not really 'overwight' as such, I weigh 10.5 stone and I am 5'8 BUT I would like to lose weight but I cant!!! and considering what I do eat I should be skinny! The past year I have become determined to get to the bottom of it and I have discovered that high levels of prolactin and piturity gland issues is in some way connected to PCOS, so why on earth didnt my specialist check me out then? I went to see a female GP hoping for some sympathy, but she said she didnt really know that much about it I explained to her but she said she would change my pill for me!! urgh! anyway I saw a different female doctor who did know about it but didnt seem concerned because I wasnt overweight, and wouldnt put me on metaformin. I just get so angry because having PCOS puts us at risk of all kinds of onset problems later in life. I am not ready to start a family just yet but in 2-3 years I will and I dont want to wait until then only to be told I cant, it would break me.
I have started to take Angus Castus, a natural herb that promotes hormonal health so watch this space! Also I follow a relativly low carb diet, (I dont eat pasta and white bread anyway)
Is anybody else at the end of their tether with GPs, and their lack of knowledge and understanding?
Take care y'all!

I gave up on doctors and PCOS years ago - they are less than worthless! LC is the only thing that has really worked for me, and it has worked well. I'm very strict though, keeping it to 20-30 carbs/day for the past 2.5 years. Our starting stats are similar - I never gained large amounts of weight either, but I was sure messed-up. Good luck!

Default doctor woes

In 1985, we lived in another city and I had a c-section delivery of a healthy son conceived with the help of Clomid. I was awake during the delivery, since I had an epidural. My husband and I heard the doc say that I had PCOS. We have since returned to our small home town. I was at my GP's office complaining about inability to lose wt., despite faithful dieting. It was decided after lab work that I had hypothyroidism, and diabetes. Meds helped me lose wt. for a while. But when I told the doc that I was previously diagnosed with PCOS, he took a close look at my face and said "I doubt it." Later he said he didn't see much facial hair (I pluck). How agnostic can you be? I asked if he would put me on glucophage, he put me on glucotrol. Later I found I could be diet controlled while low carbing (SugarBusters, well, I guess more accurate to state "proper carbing"). Now I go to an internist who put me on glucophage. I'm doing well with that, but still adjusting the dose. I usually do Atkins now. I think it's a good diet for most people with few exceptions. A lot of docs don't get this WOE. It's worth noting that in general, docs don't have nutrition courses as part of their med school curriculum. I don't know what the percentages are, but there are some docs, nurses, and dieticians who believe in lo-carbing, and some that don't. It just makes good sense to me.
