Default Eating too fast (can't be good)

I see my salad beside me ... still not finished.
I made it a few hours ago but restarted working.

My appetite really is quite low as you'd think I'd be keener on eating.

So that part good.

But ... I sadly find myself eating SUPER fast to "just finish it".

I think food should be enjoyed.

Especially when you aren't eating as much of it.

And I need some food karma to help say no to popcorn and potato chips sometimes.

Thoughts on eating too fast ?

I heard once that if you chew your food alot (I dont) you feel more satisfied.

And, I heard it "takes 20 minutes" for the hunger signal to go from your stomach to your brain. (quote from 1990). How long does Leptin take to make me fell "full" ?

I took a 90 day challange a while back to help me slow down while eating. I have always 'wolfed' my food and find I eat way too much this way - even while in ketosis. My solutions included using chopsticks, putting my utensils down after each mouthful which would also remind me to chew and savour more. Focusing on flavours and textures. Having more of a dining routine including relaxing music, sitting at the table (which we often didn't do), even candlelight to make it more of an event.
It also helped to only take a mouthful when my DH did, as he is a very slow eater.
After the 90 days of accountibility I feel like I passed the course and feel good about my eating pace - yes, I now have a much better feel for if I am not hungry anymore, and can stop before I feel like I ate too much.

I have that problem when breaking a fast. After I started noticing I was doing it I made a point to slow down . Now I don,t have to remind myself as often. Eating fast is a bad habit to get into so better to nip in the bud before it becomes established.

I mostly worry about eating too fast in a social setting. Finish early, and people assume you're hungry and push more food at you. In my case, I'll probably take it. Watching people eat reawakens my hunger. If I eat a 5 ounce pork chop and some spinach with butter by myself, I'm done, however quickly I might have finished, I go on with my life. If I do this and then have to sit there watching somebody else eat, I'll probably take more when they offer it.

I try to slow down to give myself a chance to enjoy the food, but when I'm eating alone, wolfing down my meals doesn't seem to affect my appetite much.

The leptin question is sort of loaded.

But I can tell you that if I try to chug a liter of heavy whipping cream, the "stop eating, I feel stuffed" takes a lot less than 20 minutes to kick in. I've never actually tried to chug a liter of heavy cream, but I have drank much smaller amounts and gotten that stuffed feeling.

One cherry can make me feel full. Something about citrus.

One or two cherries can make me feel full. I remember at church pot-lucks had to avoid dessert cherry or peach cobbler after the meal.
