My overall cholesterol is 463, my HDL 62 and my trigs 93. My HDL has gone down considerably and my trigs have gone up.

I have regular blood tests but nothing has ever shown any thyroid problems. Should I ask for any special tests or would the regular ones show up thyroid probs ?

Most women I know here in the UK are on some sort of thyroid medication - anyone know what's causing this epidemic ?

Change in parameters for diagnosis?

For example, with diabetes, when my grandmother was dx'd, fasting blood sugar had to be over 160 for a dx. (1940's) When I was dx'd (1991) it was 120. Now it seems to be 110. So of course many more people are going to fall into the range of diagnosis if the cutoff is 110 than if it is 160, you know?

Maybe it's the same with thyroid?

Mmm - all very interesting about thyroid. Thanks guys.

And especially interesting about the parameters for diabetes changing - just like they're doing for cholesterol levels.

Do I hold the record for highest cholesterol at 463 ?
