Thumbs up "Walk from Obesity" on September 18th

I found this very interesting website from the organization that is sponsoring the "Walk from Obesity" nationwide walk on September 18th. They already have many cities involved, and more are scheduled to be added. Here in Florida, we are having them in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, so far. They seem to have a lot of involvement from WLS supporters so how about we work on this and have a good low-carb showing? I think it would be a blast for as many of us as possible from the TDC and the forum to do this walk on September 18th wherever it is available .

Thanks for the info Orchid! This would be a good goal for myself I know and I will keep an eye out for TX cities as they add them - I think on a recent national poll TX had 2 or 3 cities in the top for fattest population (must be all the good Tex Mex and restaurants :yum so I would assume they would plan some for here.

HI - I think the idea of a walk is great, but is is a fundraiser for the sponsoring entity:the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons. The ASBS states their goal is to make better education about WLS available to the public. They may not really appreciate having a bunch of successul LCers there since that would make them less eligible for the surgey

so what exactly is bariatric surgery anyways? are we talking gastric bipass surgery & the like? if this is the case, it would be fun to walk in protest of it they have 1 near me... im pretty all set with walking for a sponsor who promotes surgery. i think a walk from obesity is a great idea, but would rather walk to promote good health & exercize vs surgery.
