Well, if you look at it narrowly, they are probably right. SUGAR, as it's thought of, is not the culprit. CARBs are. But, as carbohydrate is just a fancy name for sugar, then, yes. Sugar is the culprit.
The Sugar Association couldn't have made a weaker excuse for their directing research. "Oh, they weren't required to disclose funding sources back then."
Not funding, you mendacious criminals. Directing research to find a particular desired conclusion. Fund all the research you want, guys. Just be absolutely hands off about it, and allow researchers to be scientific. IE: do research in order to prove OR disprove a theory.
