Default Low carb Alcohol (Moscow mule) okay?

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone else likes to have a drink occasionally but is afraid of the carbs in most alcohol. I read Vodka has zero carbs but still has calories. Just wondering if anyone drinks low carb or no carb mixed drinks. I like to mix vodka with diet ginger ale and lime juice. But I do not want this to impede weight loss at all!

I feel ya! I have been Paleo for roughly six months and have a vodka or two just about every day after work to wind down and relax. I was not by any means obese when I started (210 lbs and 5'11) but had some excess weight to lose. I lost about 25 pounds and am down 5 inches around my waist without giving up the alcohol. Kind of plateaud the last month so I may cut down a little and see if it makes a difference but I did not stop me from seeing significant progress. Good luck!

YMMV on this. Chances are, alcohol WILL impede weight loss. Kinda depends on what you mean by "occasionally." The only way to find out how alcohol affects YOU is to use it (occasionally) and check your results over time.

Alcohol has fewer carbs than, say, wine. Calories can be moderate for a couple of ounces, but the alcohol goes straight to the liver and into your system as energy, thus diminishing your body's use of other energy sources, like fat stores, until the alcohol is used up.

Trouble with alcohol is, a couple of ounces "occasionally" isn't enough to make your life much happier. Well, not mine anyway. It usually ends up being more, and sometimes, in the general celebration, alcohol leads to relaxed eating. One carb leads to another.

If you're looking for "permission" to drink alcohol...well, it's up to you.

P. S. I notice the previous poster is male. I suspect that male bodies use alcohol more efficiently than female bodies do. Alcohol every day will definitely set you back.

Thanks, yes I'm sure male bodies use all calories and carbs more efficiently. Ok, thanks for the advice. I will use alcohol sparingly, but at least if I go out to dinner I don't have to feel deprived if I make it a diet vodka I've got about 25 lbs. to lose so I know it will be a struggle to get those last 15-10 gone if I use alcohol at all. 20 year high school reunion this summer!!!

In the summer, I like club soda or diet tonic with lime, hold the vodka. I don't even miss it.

High school reunions. Very motivating.

Best wishes.

I drink like a fish on low carb. It is the only reason this diet works for me as I can't give up all vices. I drink usually grey goose on the rocks, or sometimes mix with water and occasionally toss in a crystal light for a lemonade flavor. If I am feeling something else I would do a captain morgan and diet coke. Stay away from the Mules they have a lot of carbs from the ginger beer and the simple syrup. Beers are a no no. Stick with hard liquor and mild mix.

If that is the case, then the short answer is no.
