Default LCHF, Lipitor and Ketosis

Hi folks! I am doing LCHF under a DR's guidance since Dec 15th, 2016 and I feel really good, I have extremely high Cholesterol (familial hypercholesterolemia) and have been diagnosed with heart disease.

My Doctor isn't a huge fan of Statins but considering my issues, believes that it's very important for me to take them at this time and had prescribed Lipitor 10mg. I've only been on it 2 days and will have a recheck in 3 months.

I was also diagnosed with hypothyroidism and I'm currently taking 25 mcg of Levothyroxin daily.

My question is, for those of you on statins, do you feel that it hinders weight loss. Does it kick you out of ketosis?

Also concerned with the statin/diabetes connection. Do any of you think that statins caused your type 2 diabetes?

Whether or not people "think" statins caused their diabetes isn't really relevant. Not one of us knows exactly what caused it for us. Was it the statins? Was it the 150th red vine I ate in 1987? It is linked to diabetes and that carries its own increase in heart disease.

Have you checked into Dr. Davis's work? He's a cardiologist and has some recommendations for those suffering from FH.

Also, Dr. Malcolm Kendrick has written a lot, and youtubed a lot, on the topic: http://drmalcolmkendrick.org/tag/fa...olesterolaemia/

Google search of all his articles: https://www.google.com/search?q=fam..._sm=93&ie=UTF-8

Since you are in Layafette, is your doctor by any chance Dr Sarah Hallberg? If not, you have a progressive doc prescribing LCHF with diagnosed heart disease. She has some short videos on her website now about cholesterol. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=468458

Zoe Harcombe theorized about FH in this post: http://www.zoeharcombe.com/2013/10/...cell-at-a-time/

Agree with Nancy to check Dr Kendrick, he is also plugging along on his website with his conclusion after 30 years of what does cause CVD.
Up to Part 6, and still not done. Part 1: http://drmalcolmkendrick.org/2016/0...-heart-disease/

Jey100, yes, my Dr is Sarah Hallberg and she's fantastic! Thanks to you both for the info...I'm checking it all out.

Lucky You!
She was introduced to our support group when she visited Dr. Westman a while back. I am forever sending her TEDtalk to people who need a super simple explanation of diabetes and obesity, and follow her website and FB page.

I am lucky! I've spent 35 years looking for a Dr that "gets it". I moved to Lafayette a few years ago and one of my co-workers was telling me about her last Nov. I called for an appointment the next day.

I just read through all parts of Dr. Kendrick's series that are available. I want to read the next part. Especially since I caved to my MD's repeated advice and started taking statins just about 3 months ago. I already regularly debate my decision, now moreso than ever!

Thanks everybody for posting all the links so we can educate ourselves!

Dr Sarah Hallberg's newest talk on LDL at Vail:
http://youtu.be/w8jUmCe3zDs. She only uses NMR now.

Mycie, be aware of the side effects and keep an eye out for them. You may be fine and handle the drug well, but some have joint or muscle pain and don't make the connection to the statin.

Have you considered a CAC? This thread also has info on a new UK risk calculator, and new version of an NMR-type particle Cholesterol test. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...26&page=2&pp=15
