Stanton to tell all on diets

INTERNATIONALLY renowned nutritionist Rosemary Stanton will be in Mandurah next month to prove that high protein diets are not the key to weight loss.

Ms Stanton, clearly appalled by the resurgence of interest in a diet that is being promoted by many as the solution to all weight loss problems, said the high protein diet had been around for years and had just been recycled with a new name.

She said the Dr Atkins diet made a huge impact when first introduced in the late 1960s but then virtually disappeared from the market place for about 20 years.

Sports Medicine Australia executive Anne Johnston said the new promotions neglect to detail the health risks associated with such a diet.

"High protein diets: the truth about diets, exercise and weight loss" will be featured at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre's Fishtrap Theatre on July 8 from 7.30-9pm.
