Dr. Westman's clinic plan is 20 Total Carbs, usually until at goal weight. Net Carbs is an option that may be used in maintenance. However, carb amounts needed for losing weight, diabetes or other health issue management or maintenance are determined by each person's health and diet needs and discussed in the monthly visits with Dr. Westman. PM me if you want to know more.

I tried PHD only after Losing all the weight with Dr. Westman, but any mild improvements in blood sugars did not last, a day here and there. Decided it was more important for me to stay ketogenic for possible protection from cancer recurrence since safe starches didn't have enough benefit for me. Best description of my diet at this point is LC Primal, and l still attend the Duke LC support group meetings with Dr Westman monthly.

It must be nice to be able to attend Dr. Westmans clinic! Where I live I can't even find a low carb doctor. My current doctor flat out said to me you're still going to have a heart attack in 20 year even though my weight has gone down, and my cholesterol numbers, blood pressure, have improved ... sigh. Part of me wants to change doctors but why go from one conventional wisdom doctor to another, just doesn't seem worth it to me.

I know what you mean Jorey. People always say, go to a doctor for this or that, but the way I see it, I'd probably have to go to a dozen different doctors, all with co-pays, most not even local, just to discover that most of them end up knowing less about the things most important to me than I do by this time. It seems completely useless. I realize there are some reasonably self-educated doctors out there. I have just seldom if ever had cause to meet them. They seem as unrealistic as unicorns.

You've lost 46 pounds and improved all your numbers and your doctor says that?! Have you considered going to a Naturopath Doctor if the Canada health care includes them? There is one nutrionist on the PaleoPhysisciansNetwork in Edmonton but not a medical doctor. Maybe Dr Jay Wortman might know of a low carb supporter near to you. I'm currently trying to find a GP for my DD, I phone each office and outright ask about the doctor's views on diet. Even if a doctor doesn't promote low carb, at least he should be thrilled and supportive that you have done what so very few of patients do...improve their health.

Question for those of you who regularly follow Jimmy's podcasts - has he said anything about his weight recently? I know he stopped doing regular updates on his progress with his high fat program, but I'm sure that he'd mention it if he continued to show progress (and I'm not sure he'd mention it if he started to slip back). So any news at all on how he's doing?

He blurted out in a recent podcast (sorry, not sure which one) that he was at a new low for his entire adult life. And on another podcast that he was somewhere in the 220s. So sounds like he's still doing fine.

And I think he recently signed the contract to publish a book on this subject, set for early 2014.
