Default HDL Drop

Hi all,

I've been doing low-carb since March of this year. I've lost 38 pounds but my last blood work was a little surprising.

My triglycerides are up but my HDL dropped almost 20 points.

My total cholesterol is 203 and I realize that's not that bad, but the ratio of good to bad is 5.3%.

I don't understand it.. Anyone else had this happen?

It's possible the lab made a mistake. Normally HDL goes up, Trigs go down. Were you fasting?

No, the only time I could get there that week was after work and I had lunch.

I sure hope it's a mistake.

The test is useless if you're not fasting. I guess that's the good news! They shouldn't have even bothered running it, IMO. Go get it redrawn on a minimum 12-hour fast, nothing but water.

Yup. Totally worthless test. It is ridiculous they even did it.
