I listened to a podcast about that. Fascinating stuff!

I had a hard time with sleep (getting 3-4 hours a night, not good) and what worked for me was:
  • no caffeine (not even decaff)
  • wearing blue blocker sunglasses at sundown and turning off most room lights
  • bedtime prompt at 10 pm
  • SLEEP MASK

Improved matters greatly. Addressing inflammation is also huge.

I'm dealing with menopause/hormone issues, as well, but my number one indicator that I'm doing something right is getting good sleep.

Also, it is speculated that babies sleep so much because they are processing so much information. Which is why older people might not actually need so much as they used to... since their sleep decreases.

Which would indicate hunter gatherers might not need as much sleep as we do in more developed nations, where we have information overload.
