Coconut Oil is Going Kill Us All (or maybe not)

Quote:
...I will say this for the AHA: At least we can dispense with the accusations of conflicts of interest. After all, the coconut industry of America just pledged to donate up to $500k from coconut seed sales to the American Heart Association. For the AHA to come out strongly against coconut oil after getting such a sweet deal only confirms the objectivity of the assessment. Even if they’re wrong, they’re not biased.

Oh, wait. It was the soybean industry that pledged to donate the money to the AHA?* Never mind.

Mark's had a link to the press release from one of my "neighbors"

Bayer and LibertyLink Soybeans Help Protect Hearts in America’s Heartland

Bayer support of American Heart Association’s Healthy for Good movement aims to help improve rural heart health

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. [March 2, 2017] –In an effort to support heart health and improve the wellness of rural Americans nationwide, Bayer is proud to announce its support of the American Heart Association (AHA).

The effort, which runs through 2017, supports the AHA’s Healthy for Good™ movement to inspire all Americans to live healthier lives and create lasting change by taking small, simple steps today to create a difference for generations to come.

For each bag of LibertyLink® soybean seed sold for the 2017 season, Bayer will contribute 5 cents to the AHA’s Healthy for Good movement for a total maximum donation of $500,000. In addition to monetary donations to support the cause, Bayer will help raise heart health awareness across America through educational activities targeted to growers in rural communities.

The Crop Science division of Bayer, the developer of LibertyLink, helps growers protect their most important resources in farming with industry-leading solutions. They will also help soybean growers and rural communities protect their most important resources in life – their heart health.

As part of this program, Bayer also helps the AHA meet its 2020 impact goal to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent and reduce deaths from cardiovascular diseases and strokes by 20 percent. AHA’s Healthy for Good movementfocuses on healthier diets, additional physical activity, blood pressure management and cholesterol control.

Allen Gent, Strategic Business Lead for Bayer, said, “The average age of the American farmer is well over 50 years old, and automation is much more prevelant in today’s agriculture climate. Growers are more sendentary than in the past, which is one contributing factor to cardiovascular disease. This program solidifies the Bayer mission to help growers succeed by promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Helping rural Americans is essential to our industry as growers are our greatest resource. A nation and global economy depend on their agriculture production. We’re thrilled to partner with the American Heart Association to have a positive effect on not only heart health, but our industry as well.“

“We’re thankful for Bayer’s support of our mission and excited to extend health and wellness messages further, reaching more and more people in the United States,” said Alvin Royse, J.D., CPA, AHA chairman. “This project will help build a culture of health in rural communities.”

What? I must find out who is writing their Press Releases...its piled high and deep to justify assuring heart-health recommendations for GMO soybean oil.

Organizations like AHA may start out with an admirable mission but as they grow in size and influence that mission is often forgotten and replaced simply with the wish to remain in power. Self-perpetuation becomes the goal. If they want Bayer's money then they have to promote soybeans. The AHA chose money over truth. Bayer spews forth their self-aggrandizing garbage and the AHA follows suit. It's sickening, literally and figuratively.

The power of good from social media...Zoe Harcombe learned of and tweeted the Bayer press release, it was read by Tom Naughton, who felt compelled to add "one more thing" about the AHA fat advisory

http://www.fathead-movie.com/index....rt-association/

Dr Perlmutter, Dr Deborah, and countless others who have encouraged coconut oil consumption have also written good rebuttals.

Has anyone seen USAToday, or BBC, or the other major outlets with "Coconut Kills" headlines cover the responses??
The timing of the Bayer donation might be a good angle?

For all the bad it does, I agree that it is a lot harder to hide things with "citizen journalism" helping get the word out.

Imagine if we had this same situation when Keys was trying to steamroll his scientific opposition. Back then, there was nowhere to go; now, there is.

And not that this should be a surprise, but of the AHA's roughly 30 million in corporate donations, 15 of it comes just from AstraZeneca, the makers of Crestor. The list of donors is well buried in their financials, but it is now floating around Twitter.

Nina Teicholz has an Op-Ed in the LA Times today.

http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-e...0723-story.html

Op-Ed Don't believe the American Heart Assn. — butter, steak and coconut oil aren't likely to kill you

Investigative journalist Nina Teicholz is the author of “The Big Fat Surprise: Why Butter, Meat and Cheese Belong in a Healthy Diet.” This op ed is based on a longer analysis of the recent AHA advisory that was co-written with cardiologist Eric Thorn and published this month on the medical website Medscape.

Sales of Crestor must be dropping with all the meat and coconut eating going on. They must bash CO and promote GMO soybean oil instead to make more people sick enough to be prescribed Crestor.

EDIT: Since miserably trying to share JPSears FB page here, found that DietDoctor already had it on his website, with a cleaner YouTube link:
https://www.dietdoctor.com/will-coconut-oil-kill
of this funny video: Coconut Oil Kills.
