Cats: The M&E thing worked for me. I did it for a week and then went back to "normal" Atkins, and yes, I did eat that little. It seems that when I diet and exercise the exercise basically kills my appetite. In fact, most of the time AFTER I exercise I feel like I am going to puke so I don't get hungry until about 4 hours after I exercise.

I also took a Dexatrim while I was doing M & E, which helped kill the appetite somewhat.

Cats,

I feel fuller when I take it, though, as far as weight loss goes, I have to consistently stay on it - I've had trouble with that for a year.

As far as exercise, I mentioned this method several months ago, by Dr. Al Sears, it's a modified version of high intensity interval training. With his method, you only work out a maximum of 10-20 minutes per day, but you do it at high intensity. I tried doing this with running, but killed my shins with shin-splints. So, thanks to another friendly Nebraskan, I'll be doing it on an eliptical!!! :-)

PV - what, if any differences have you seen since using it? How long have you been using it now?

Did you find you had rapid heartrate on dexatrim? I had real problems with heartrate and dizziness both times I took it. I've had to add calorie counting to my carb counting. I know that goes against the grain but after months and months of no weight loss, I've lost 3 pounds this week. Of course I'm almost 46 so age could be part of my stall too.

Hi Ann!
I'm older than ya'all and yes, age sure makes it way more difficult to loose. (Sheesh, I just realized maybe that has something to do with why I can't loose like I did the 1st time around 5 years ago). But if I try counting calories, then I limit fat, and trying the zero carb thing, I DO agree, it's the fat that keeps a person from being so hungry.
Dexi-trim is the ONLY diet pill that doesn't make me nervous and crabby. I really limit my use of it to when I think I just can't do without something to eat & it's not meal time.

Default The PACE Program

This is from Dr. Sears:

When I started developing PACE® 20 years ago, everyone was rushing off to aerobics class. Little did they know that aerobics actually works against your heart – and keeps you fat around the middle!

It still shocks people today. But decades of research back me up. And it’s not just my research either… Researchers around the world have turned up similar evidence.

At Laval University in Canada, sports medicine specialists discovered that athletes using the techniques featured in my PACE® program burned 9 times more fat than those using the typical long-duration aerobic methods.

A Colorado State University team measured how long fat continues to burn after repeatedly using just one of the techniques of my PACE® program. Remarkably, they found that fat continued to burn at a higher rate 16 hours later. Even when they were idle, they continued to burn fat at a 62% higher rate.

This is your native fat burner at work. It’s been there all along… We’ve just been using the wrong techniques.

Aerobics and other long-duration exercises like jogging and marathons create changes in your body that weaken your heart and lungs. They tell you body to make and store more fat. This way, your body makes sure it has something to burn during your next aerobics class. And to cope with long-duration stresses, your body will actually shrink your heart and lungs.

PACE® gives your body the right kind of challenge. And it only takes 10 minutes! Not hours of grueling – not to mention boring – jogging and jumping around that most fitness “experts” tell you is the way to go.

By giving yourself the right challenge, with the right level of intensity, you get an adaptive response that tells your body that you don’t need fat. And instead of shrinking your heart and lungs, your body will start to build vital reserve capacity – the kind that prevents heart attack and heart failure.

And the evidence doesn’t stop there.

PACE® Knocks Out Cardio in Clinical Showdown

Two of my most successful coaching students turned out to be a perfect illustration of how well PACE® works – because they are twin sisters.

When they arrived for their initial assessment, both twins – age 18 – had almost identical body composition measurements. (Body composition measures the amount of body fat and lean body mass, or muscle.)

By the end of the 16-week study, the twin doing PACE® was sprinting for 6 sets. Each set had a 50-yard interval followed by a rest period of 30 seconds. The twin doing traditional cardio was jogging 10 miles with no breaks.

The results? The PACE® twin went from 24.5% body fat all the way down to 10% for a total fat loss of 18 pounds. What’s more, she gained 9 pounds of pure muscle.

The cardio twin also started at 24.5% body fat but went down to only 19.5% body fat for a total fat loss of 8 pounds. And instead of gaining valuable muscle, the cardio twin actually lost muscle.

Overall, the PACE® twin lost 125% more fat than the cardio twin, and gained 9 pounds of muscle, where the cardio twin lost muscle.

Of course, after this experiment the cardio twin got jealous of her sister’s remarkable fat loss. So I put her onto the same program. Within weeks, she reversed her losses and soon slimmed down to match here sister’s progress.

There’s nothing unusual about this kind of achievement. I’ve reproduced it again and again. The twins did so well because I told them exactly what to do at each step in their program. All they had to do was follow along.

Good morning all!

Sorry to hear your experience with zero carb didn't go well Cats. It's true that it's a difficult path to follow. If it's not working for you and is making you unhappy than it's not for you. It's best to be happy even if you do have to fight your weight. People can do as much damage with stress as with extra weight.

I have been binge free since I started ZC on Aug. 1st. It's the first time in my life I have ever been able to stay calm and not allow my cravings to take over. I had cravings early on too, before my insulin was stabilized, but I was determined to make the change and I did it. Now, I am disconnected from all food other than meat - meaning nothing tempts me at all. I don't even see it as food. I wanted a life free of food thoughts, where eating is simply something I need to do rather than something I look forward to - and I'm getting closer and closer to that goal. Coffee and alcohol are my only hurdles left. I've been coffee free for 2 days now. Alcohol - I'm not sure I'll give that up. It goes straight to the liver and doesn't affect insulin levels, but it does stop the flow of fatty acids - I'll just have to give up a few hours of fat burning time after drinking. I think I can accept that. I've shed a few tears in the process and spent some "why me?" moments, but I was determined that THIS time I'll do it.

I have always admired people who actually leave food on their plates, simply say "I'm not hungry" when offered something and those who can skip meals and say "oops, I guess I missed lunch". I mean, come on!!! That would have NEVER happened to me before ZC - I licked my plate clean, counted the minutes between every meal and could eat at any given moment of any day. Not anymore. That is a miracle to me - one I couldn't achieve on LC.

Exercise- I'm not a good person to ask here. I exercise because I love it. I am an extreme proponent of weight lifting. INMHO it is the FIRST thing to start with. Changing the composition of your body by adding muscle is the most important thing to do. Then, once your muscles are strengthened, cardio will be easier. Muscle is what allows you to do any movement repeatedly. You don't build lung strength or even heart strength, believe it or not - and muscle actually does require more fuel from your body - thus speeding up fat mobilization (burning). You can get hand weights and lift while you watch TV or you can go to the gym. I get a magazine called Oxygen that always has great routines in it.

So, there I go again - being different and odd, but that's what I think!!

Have a great day - I'm off to lift and spin at the gym! I'm planning to get certified in cycling soon so I can teach. That should be interesting!

The Dexatrim has never given me any problems. I only take one a day and the only time I take is around the Holidays....so next week I will probably take one a day leading up to Turkey Day.

Some people from work are taking me out for lunch today for my birthday. We are going to BW 3's so I don't know if I should get wings or a salad!
