Thanks! That was helpful.
I'm not sure if I should take it regularly or not yet, but it's definately something I could use right now!

I used to make sure I got at least 3 days of recovery for each bodypart. Now, I typically give 'em a week, except for legs, and I may change this sometime soon as well.

I third this advice. In the beginning you're not as strong and/or your workouts aren't as intense. With more experience you can allow a week or even more for recovery. Signs you're overtraining and not allowing enough recovery are weakness (can't lift as much weight), tiredness and a feeling of exercise burnout.

Question Question for those who know so much....

I hope the title doesnt sound smart alecky!! I dont intend it that way. My question is this: I started doing Arms of Steel last week and have been doing it every other day. I also do the Curves workout at least 3 times a week but usually 4 times. I am using light weights with the AofS. 3lb, 5lb and 10lbs. Is doing it every other day okay or should I add more resting time in there? Thanks, DOnnie

Hiya Donnie -

I'm not sure what you mean by light - do you mean that you THINK that they're light, or do you mean that you don't feel anything the next day?

Generally speaking, if you don't feel ANYTHING the next day, it's time to increase your weights. Lifting light weights lots of times doesn't really accomplish very much. I really can't answer weather or not you should do this every second day, because I wouldn't do this ever. I get far better results from really pushing the weight, in short, heavy, intense sets.

Maybe you could expand a bit on what it is that you do with these weights (how many reps, how many sets, how you feel the next day) and on what your goals are.

I guess by light I mean the actual weights are light- 3, 5 and 10 lbs. I was sore after doing it the first day and when I am doing it I am really pushing. I am not counting reps since I am following the tape. I dont think I could increase the actual weight yet. The whole tape lasts about 45 minutes and that includes a warm up and cool down. Thanks,

Okay - well, I'm really not familiar with lifting-tapes at ALL. I do most of my lifting in sets with reps of 5-12, resting for a minute or two between sets. I have NO idea what to suggest in terms of how many days, other than no more then every second day, and maybe no more than twice a week. I've never lifted this way, so maybe someone who has can step up to the plate here.

Do you really reast a minute or two between each and every rep? Is that because the weights are SO heavy?

You got it.

This is normal weightlifting technique.

Weighlifting is NOT aerobic - I am NOT trying to keep my heartrate up. Quite the opposite in fact.

Thanks Built. I did the tape yesterday afternoon and I can tell when on which ones I could increase my weight because it was too easy. I think I am going to have my husband do it with me Sunday morning and see what he thinks. He lifts at the gym and I think he could tell me if it is a good tape. I am going to stick to every other day for now.

CheesyPoof, I'm pretty sure Built did not catch her error and meant to say between each SET.

Cool, I was thinking, WOW, I'm doing this ALL wrong. A minute or two between each set makes perfect sense.
