It's evident that your doctor does not understand that the main fondation of PCOS is insulin resistance. It sounds like he/she understands how important it is for someone with PCOS to lose weight but not the correct way to go about it.

Luckily, here in the US womens health providers have recognized that a carbohydrate controlled diet that keeps your insulin responses low will help improve your PCOS, help you lose weight so that you can ge-gain your fertility and get pregnant.

And for the medication that keeps you from absorbing fat--not such a great idea. YOU need fat for some of the most basic functions of your body such as absorbtion of certain vitamins and the most basic building blocks of tissues such as you BRAIN.

I'm a womens healthcare provider. LC is the advised way to go to control many of the manifestations of PCOS.

HTH

lisa,
thank U for replying. i know here in UAE no body's comfortable around lowcarbing wid high protien n fats. they believ in low cal way of diet.
many nutrisionist i av been to, dismissed my suggetion saying it to be unhealthy, but i believ in it so i started it unsupervised, it made me feel much better. i mean u cant find LC friendly stuff at the departmental stores. still am doing my best as i can.
n i m planning on taking some vitamin D's as well. 2 years back when i checked i was very deficient in vitamin D, serum iron and serum calcium.
i was given meds for vitamin D n calcium. n intravenous iron .
then i stopped. now i dunnow what vitamin D should i take, if u could enlighten.
Thank You for ur support..
its LC for life for me

Im with everyone else...do some research on it...I have PCOS, have had it for years...never given a fat absorbing med for it...was given some meds in the beginning but now not taking anything...not because of LC'ing but well...i dunno i just quit taking them a few years ago...they werent helping much...but there is NOTHING neg about doing LC with PCOS. Im no doctor but ive never heard of anyone killing over from it lol...shame where you live everyone looks down on LC'ing...it does so many good things for your body.

When I was first diagnosed over 15 years ago all the gynae doc told me was ' sorry you're likely to be fat, hairy and infertile unless they find a cure'. Since then I've been told to lose weight by low fat and also to get a hysterectomy to cure it! Not one doctor advised me low carb - but that's the UK. Lucky nowadays we have the internet where we can search for the latest up to date info on conditions like this. Lc is the only way to go with pcos.

I have been officially diagnosed for the past 10 years since then I have seen an endocronologist and been on and off metformin to control my insulin levels and been told to strictly low carb. Low carb is the only way of eating that has ever allowed me to not only lose weight but control the symptoms. I am far less hairy, emotional and have much more regular cycles when strictly low carbing.

Find yourself and RE and do lots of reading.
