Question Optimum BPM during exercise??

Anyone know what the optimum heartrate (BPM) is while exercising?

At Curves we do a 10 second test.

I'm 40 yr old female. My BPM usually ranges between 22-25 in the midst of working out....is this good or should I strive to get it faster?

Default Hello

I know, not a lot of people are responding in this forum anymore. Used to be a lot busier in the summer time.

I guess you should subtract 220 - (your age) and multiply that number by the inensity you want. Some people reffer to it as the "zone" to be in between 60% and 80%.

Personally, I don't worry about all that. I do intervals. That is go as hard as I can for a minute and go less hard for a minute or a minute and a half.

Rule of thumb: I mean you should find it hard to sing when you are working out, but not hard to talk a couple of words.

So to summarize, just don't worry about it and rely on your common sense by listening to your body.

I hope this helps

Loony

Default Sorry, been busy....

Yvonne,

For your weight, assuming you are looking for maximum fat burning, keep your BPM between 120 and 150, ideally around 135. While higher numbers will give you greater cardio/pulmonary benefits, the fat burning happens at lower numbers maintained for longer periods of time.

HTH,

Jones
