Default New to the board - spotty question......

Hiya Everyone,

Ive just joined the forum and I must say its great to have an Irish section - I do think we have a bum deal here in Ireland when it comes to low carb foods. Also - are ye not sick of everyone telling you how bad it is for your health and looking at you lik eyou have two heads when you order food???

Anyway, Ive been on Atkins for the last three weeks and have lost 12 pounds so Im delighted with that. The only problem I have is that I have been covered in spots for the last three weeks too!! I am usually prone anyway but never this bad and they just seem to be getting worse!

I wondered if anyone else has this problem or had any advice for me. I am taking all the vitamina and Mineral supplements but cant figure this out.

Id appreciate any help at all.

Take care!!!!

I think it could be an hormonal response .Some girls have different periods when they first start the diet .If not ,are you drinking all your water ?Are you eating enough greens? Are you constipated?

Hi Pene,

Thanks for your reply. I am trying to drink enough water but I suppose that I dont always get to the 8 glasses. Also, I have been constipated for a bit too.

What would you recommend on this front?

Thanks!!

Hi,
For the water, you should drink 64 ounces of water and
I think, above that, it is 8 oz for every 5 pounds you want to lose.
Psyllium husk [found in health food store]is something that I used on Atkins.
It takes tree days to work .The idea is to stir 1 teaspoon in a glass of water and stir it vigorously .Drink it while it is still moving. It will gel and make your stools easier to move. You take it every day.
There is no carbs in it.
You know salads and coleslaw at your meals. Broccoli or cauliflower, should keep you going. Did you read the book?
There are some threads on the board about constipation

Default Regarding spots and constipation

Hello Irishgal,

Are the spots, pimples or blotches?

Also, there's a fellow in Tralee who sells really good linseed which is not grown with pesticides and is sliced so all ready for consuming. Constipation can be nasty, but I find good quality linseed (most health food shops buy cheap stuff with questionable cadmium levels) coupled with distilled water and lots of fat in the diet should keep you regular.

Hi there,

My advice may be a bit out of date.

i had a problem with spots too. I think because I was eating more fat (butter, cheese, etc) that it showed up on my face first. Just a couple of weeks and then gone.

Constipation. I take Magnesium and Calcium tablets that I bought at Boots. No yucky tasting psyllium. Take one big tablet in the morning (being a chick I could use the calcium anyway...) and no probs.

Hope this helps!!!

K
