Default Newbie with lots of questions....

Hi everyone! My name is Donna and I've just discovered this site! I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. Here goes.

1. How fast does the medication "work". I started taking .25gr (15mg) Armour Thyroid four days ago. Am I imagining that I am seeing improvement already? It seems like I am in a better frame of mind and am sleeping better.

2. I've read on this site where you should be careful of taking supplements with iron and zinc. Does that mean at all, or is it okay to take zinc as long as it is several hours apart from the thyroid?

3. Are there any other supplements/herbs to beware of while taking thyroid? I'm also fighting a Candida Albicans issue. My doctor prescribed Nystatin and Diflucan (I'll take both of those in two weeks on docs orders to see how thyroid affects me first) but I also want to take some of the herbs that are known to kill off some of those little critters like caprylic acid, oil of oregano, olive leaf extract, etc. I have already started using coconut oil which I know is great for both Candida and Thyroid.

4. I saw also that some oils were supposed to be avoided. Specifically, safflower oil. Would this apply to CLA which is from safflower oil?

Okay, sorry this so long...I think I had more questions, but I'll post them later.

Thanks everyone!

Hi Donna,
I was so suprised to read you are on Amour Thyroid. I was on that years ago 2gr. Needless to say, I was thin and stayed thin as I had been my whole life. I understood thy stopped giving that. I am 60 and many of my friends were taken off the thyroid and we are on Synthroid. I will have to ask about that. Any way, I would not take anything, herbal or over the counter unless you ask your doctor. I was taking herbs for a short time and was told not to mix! It will just depend on what you are taking, your pharmacy will be able to tell you also by looking you up in the computer. I just make sure I eat a lot of good fresh green veg. and foods that are free for me that have all the vitamins in them. Hope this helps some. I know it is not the answer you would want to hear. Have a good evening. Susan 180/171/145

So, Donna....after going on Synthroid you gained weight? Had no weight gain issues on Amour? Is this correct? Have you eating patterns been stable between the two for the most part? Just curious.

hi Donna, i have been on synthroid for 6 yrs.,I also need to take supplemental iron because I suffer fron chronic anemia.the two drugs need to be taken seperatley because the iron interferes with your body's absorption of the synthroid.I am not familiar with armour (is it availible only in the states as i am from canada) so I dont know if it would affect absorption in the same way but definitley check with your doctor.kristen.

Ilovedogs, the equivalent of Armour is available in Canada. It's called Thyroid, but it has been on long term backorder for the last number of months as it was sold to another Pharmaceutical. Last I heard, it was supposed to be available in September.

Susan, most doctors prescribe Synthroid, but the top thyroid doctors prescribe Armour, or whatever works best for their patient. Have you been to Mary Shomon's site?

Armour is back and very popular with users because some of us don't convert the T4 in the synthetic stuff to T3, so we like the natural thyroid because it has ALL the thyroid hormones, including one that is really good for your bones (calcitonin).

Yes, I would expect you to feel your Armour immediate. I feel mine about 15 minutes after I take it.
