I have followed Atkins myself and it has been very good for me (and my PCOS). I am still working on my weight (why does it have to be so slow among PCOS women???), but slow progress is better than no progress!

For me personally Atkins works. I get cravings of all sorts when I try other plans (South Beach comes to mind) because the plans are too leinient for me. I like the structure of Atkins - it helps set me up to be successful. Again, this is what has worked best for me.

I hope my ramblings helped!

I too have PCOS and I am also trying to figure out which plan is the best?? I know SB has the "Low fat" option, where as Atkins is 'Fat is your Friend'.. Which one is better????

I think that which ever plan you will follow is the best. There is a link here that compares plans. Go get the books. Which plan fits your lifestyle, tastes the best? Personally I like Atkins, but if you can't follow it then why bother?

Exactly, the plan that works is the one you can follow (longterm).

For PCOS and weight loss, I would personally start with Atkins and do a longer induction.

South Beach would be good for maintenance or ongoing weight loss.

But it all depends on the degree of your insulin resistance. Mine is pretty severe, I actually did a doctor supervised diet that was more restrictive than Atkins induction. For me South Beach would only be good for maintenance.

So it's really a personal variable. But for sure results, I would do Atkins first and then branch out from there.

I had results with SB, so much so, that I ended up prg with our daughter, now 10 1/2 weeks old.
I did treatments for 5 years, started SB, lost 20 lbs. and got prg. with the weight loss and metformin. I don't know if you want to get prg. But I know SB helped with my symptoms.

I did SB and even went to a Dr. who specialized in nutrition for IR and she put me on a diet very similar to SB, but I found that I really couldnt loose weight on it. I had to exercise hard 6 days a week to loose 1 lb. I am on Atkins now (w/ Metformin) and for 6 weeks, I've lost 23 lbs. The first two weeks I lost 13lbs so I am avg 2.5lbs a week since. I am also walking.

I think SB is great for a maintenance plan (life long), but it didnt work well for me for weight loss.

I have PCOS and actually started Atkins before I ever found out I had it. I try to stay at or as close to 20 grams of carbs per day, as that is what helps the most. I find if I have too many carbs, or too many certain kinds of carbs, rather (like dairy for example) I don't lose and sometimes I gain. Atkins has been my best friend for weight loss and low fat does not help at all for me. I eat a lot of fat, LOL, and still manage to lose enough weight for me to be satisfied.

I have pcos and I'm insulin resistant. I couldn't lose weight until I went very low in carbs (less than 20). Now my weight is stalling so I'm cutting down on fat and dairy. And YES it is very frustrating that with PCOS weight loss is SLOOOOOOOWWWW!
But I'm not giving up!

I have PCOS and I follow a Kimkins-esque/Stilmans plan with some intermittent fasting. I keep my carbs at or below 20 and my calories around 1000.

I've lost 21 pounds in 28 days. I HAD to do more than just Atkins (I gained on SB) because when I don't lose I get discouraged.

It's about figuring out what works for you.

People keep saying that weightloss with PCOS is slow, but I can't complain.. I mean, on average 1-2 pounds a week is GOOD and NORMAL. Are people losing slower than this? Actually, sometimes I don't lose anything in a week.

I have PCOS and have been on Metformin for about 4 or 5 years now. I'm just restarting Atkins and haven't really got much input, but wanted to say Hi. I'm joining you all on this journey!
